Hope for Schapelle and the other accused Australians in Bali

A ray of hope exists for the Schapelle Corby and the 9 other Australians on trial for drug-trafficking. Their position is unenviable but talks are underway between the Australian and Indonesian governments to arrange a prisoner transfer if they are convicted. This arrangement would allow the accused to serve their time in Australia.

I am glad that the death penalty is looking like something that will not happen. No one wants to see young people executed and I do not want Bali tarnished as a place that kills Australians. It is interesting to note that when the death penalty is handed to another Asian nobody blinks. An Indian man was executed last year. Makes me very thankful that I have a passport from a first world country, which means my bottom will get wiped if I poop my pants overseas.

As a newspaper article points out one lingering point of contention is how the sentences will be played out. Will a life sentence in Indonesia mean 10 years I Australia? In a perfect world they would execute the kingpin and let everyone else put in 10 years worth of community service.

What do you think about this latest development?

G’Day Nick,

You know Indo just as well as I do and have seen the justice system albeit a flaky process. I think Corby should be exhonerated of the alleged crime. There are too many wierd circumstances surrounding the whole case.

Drug traffickers in Oz generally receive up to 40 years jail, but, in Indonesia it is a standing life sentence or the bullet.

IF, and that’s a big IF she is convicted, then I should imagine her sentence would be commuted to life which will mean putting her in a maximum security prison with murderers etc. That’s not a pretty place. At least here in Oz we have minimum security as well as Maximum like in most democratic countries.

Corby’s only hope IF she is sentenced is that the Oz government will jump up and down ands plead for her sentence to be served in an Oz prison.

One can only hope that…her God be with her on this day.

As for the other 9 Aussies, well, they were caught red-handed. Justice will prevail ruthlessly with them and their lives will be short. The problem with that case is that it will drag out for years with appeals etc. The Indo justice system is very slow.

A perfect example of this can be seen with the Bali bombers. They are still alive and kicking and enjoying life. Fuck ‘em.

In reality there is nothing wrong with taking weed to Bali or anywhere.

The only thing wrong is the law and the savage people who like to dictate and want blood.

Weed is not heroin.

Australian Govt. jump up and down? Bali Bombers get lenient sentence – how much jumping up and down did we see then? 82 lives lost ..here we have 1 at stake. Schapelles only chance is that George Bush become involved (god knows he sticks his nose in everywhere else) and say its wrong, then Johnny will follow suit! I hope this poor girl gets exhonerated..but under Indonesian law is that a possibility? It has been in the media that the judge is 75% certain how he will find her and sentence her. It has also been said that her personal plea makes no difference.

If she committed the crime she should pay the penalty. We all know the rules on Bali and other countries like Singapore. I doubt very highly that someone stashed those drugs in her luggage. She got caught and the rules are the rules. If that means execution, than that is the correct penalty. She should have known better.
