Bit of a slower day today and I didn't do a great deal except read and pop out for lunch with Nick at a local Warung. So Nick wouldn’t think I was a total slackarse I went out for a walk around the neighbourhood. I wandered down to Ku De Ta restaurant to get to the beach. Along the way I noticed a ton of kites in the air. Nick and I had seen plenty of these the last couple of days but didn’t know why. A sign by the side of the road explained the mystery…
Along the way I passed some nice looking restaurants, including a Moroccan one I’d like to check out sometime, and some interesting houses. I also discovered a competitor for the new BootBus, should we ever decide to buy one for Bali.
Another house that struck me as a little strange was this one. It was completely empty from top to bottom, except for one desk and a computer. It’s a very nicely designed building, situated next to a rice field, but it didn’t look like anyone was ready to move in. Perhaps this sign was keeping folks away.
Once down on the beach, I saw a few more kites in the distance. Wandering down in their direction, I saw plenty of folks on the beach, clustered around some of the cafes and restaurants on the beach, Ku De Ta, Spy Caf´, Caf´ 66, etc. There was the odd local burying himself in the sand, and this guy who’d just dis-interred himself.
As I got closer to the kites I was able to snap a few shots of them. They weren’t doing any stunts, just hanging there, some of them several hundred feet in the air. There must have been at least 100 up and down the coastline. This one looked very realistic.
I stopped at a part of the beach that was not OK for swimmers and checked out the waves that were rolling in. There were a couple of surfers out there and the waves looked good to me, but I’m no expert.
Nothing eventful happened on the way back, except perhaps that I was offered some drugs by a dude hanging out on the beach. It was tough to tell what he had in his baggy, but he promised I would be very friendly, whatever that means.
Nick and I are hanging out at Internet Outpost now, looking to interview a few travelers for their thoughts on Bali.

G’day Nick & Chris,
Incredible houses. The first one looks like a combo of Chinese and North African. With the Morrocan restoran nearby, it seems feasible eh.
I loved the sign on the beach to warn swimmers!. Can’t be any more straightforward eh!!.
‘High as kite in Bali’….Bali is a very beautiful ‘Natural High’!.
Good to see you are hard at it. That house is unusual. I was a little disappointed that you hadnt packed your own kite and joined.

Glad to see you having such a good time out there, Chris. Getting the double perspective with you and Nick makes for even more interesting reading too.
