Life has a way of slapping you in the face once in a while so it was only fitting that as soon as I post a picture of my papaya tree on the site something happens.
About 3 hours later I was in Kuta and got an sms from Ika saying Please do not be mad, I pulled the tree down!
Actually I did not believe it till later that night when I saw it with my own eyes. The wire washing line that Ika used must of strained the tree and it came crashing down without anyone touching it. There is a 4ft tall part of the stump still firmly rooted in the ground, the rest is history.
Just thought I would share that with you.
Mostly sunny weather continues here in Kuta Bali. with the occasional shower. Living here all the time I am well aware of the power of the sun. I also see planes loads of new arrivals from Europe and cooler climates who try to get a Bali tan on their first day here. Here is a game plan for your first day if you are coming from a cold climate: go slow, wear a hat, slap on the sunblock, do not spend all day on the beach and stay hydrated.
A young Australian lady is in jail over here for drug trafficking. This type of thing happens every once in a while, usually with Nigerians, Italians and Brasilians. A few months ago a Brasilian guy had a couple of kgs of blow inside his surfboard! Of course the x-ray machine saw it and now he is behind bars. In my opinion these type of people might get a lucky break if they have lots of money to pay someone off, or maybe their parents can get $20,000 together and get it to the right people before they are convicted.
Do not think about importing drugs into Indonesia. Even though there are plenty of people offering marijuana on the beach and party drugs at nightclubs, the government is serious about putting dealers away.
From my experience living in Bali I would say there is not really a big drug scene here. Local people I know and other Indonesians from around the country do not seem to partake very much. The nightclub scene always attracts that kind of stuff and the main impetus for drugs is the Euros with money.
If you buy marijuana from a stranger on the beach you will most likely be arrested about 3 minutes later. Figure it out. Inside nightclubs you will probably not be as the nightclubs are most likely making a percentage, and it would not be good for business having cops haul people off the dance floor.
