My brother Chris is here with me in Seminyak and in the last 24 hours we have been checking out the food scene.
I am a man of habit and took him to Warung Gossip in Kerobokan and Mykonos Greek restaurant in the evening. I got a big steak with potatoes and veggies for 38,000rp. Mykonos has re-designed its menus which now feature photos of the dishes. They are super vivid and I think they over did it, especially with the background shots of an old Greek grandad pulling a big octopus out of a pot. Not the most appetizing thing you could see on a menu. Still fun atmosphere and decent food. Mykonos is located on Jl. Oberoi in Seminyak.
Chris is quite a good deal stockier than me and looks as if he could really hurt somebody if he wasn’t careful. I managed to ferry us both around on my motorbike no worries. It’s possible if the person on the rear keeps still as a sudden ‘butt move’ could really throw the driver off.
We discussed the entire state of English soccer past and present at Santa Fe and I introduced him to my friend Dian who works there as a wine expert. She’s pretty funny because because she told me she is Muslim and her dad told her drinking wine is okay. “Oh so you like wine?” I said. “Yes” she said, “but I really like tequila.”
Today I spent an exciting few hours editing photos and text for my 2 latest hotel reviews. In Internet Outpost I ran into DDleg (Debbie from Los Angeles) who is out here searching for a place to live full time. She is totally loving being out here but has to go back in a few days. I hope we get to hear how her plans to move to Bali develop.
This evening the power went out in Kuta, Legian and Seminyak meaning I got knocked offline and went for a ’sop buntut’ (oxtail soup) with rice at Baku Dapa on Jl. Dhyana Pura. It is served with limes and hot sambal and has a couple of chunks of boney beef in it. Great if you just want a snack rather than a belly fully.
I’ve been dragging a bit lately and bought some Chinese Ginseng from the Chinese medicine place next to Bread Station near Bintang supermarket. I got 12 little bottles for 20,000rp. Ika is going to pick me up some ‘jamu’ the Indonesian home made tonic that people drink out here. I think having more people at my house than normal and trying to do more things wears me out a bit more so I’m looking forward to what the ‘juice’ can do for me. One comical aspect of jamu is that the locals believe you can choose rather specific things you want remedied and I just said to Ika “you pick one for me.”
Haven’t heard anything locally from anyone about the election. Here’s a recent appearance by Mega.
