Getting ready for Thailand
I am here at Internet Outpost getting odds and ends taken care of in preparation for my trip to Thailand tommorrow.
I will be gone fom Aug 23rd till Sept 6th and its always a bit of a stress dealing with Indonesian immigration, airports and logistics of getting places.
Just had a hair cut at Monkey Planet on Jalan Legian. It funny over here as they do it in stages. You sit down and someone washes your hair, then you go to the chair and another person strolls up and give you a head massage ( makes you melt! ) and then the hairdresser arrives and goes to work.
With my new short hair I look like a 40 year Man U reject.
Picked up business visa papers from Arjuna yesterday for 500,000rp. I will take these to the Indonesia consulate in Bangkok and file for another business visa, which will give me 60 days on arrival and is extendable up to 4 times for 30 days each time.
Too bad ”007” my Singapore contact isn’t on hand to take care of things. Oh well I’ll just spend a day doing it myself.
I’m flying Royal Brunei Airlines which will mean a short stopover in Bandar Seri Begwan. Hopefully I’ll be on Khao San Rd in about 30 hours from now checking things out and meeting travelers.
A local friend of mine, Mark from NYC gave me some tips on the Khao San RD area including where to find a good travel agent and good eating. I guess you head up past the police station and go along the side of the temple and you’ll find a popular string of traveler restaurants. Thai buffs will know this I’m sure.
I’ll have to get out of the habit of saying ‘makasi’when someone brings my food though. Hoping to check out some Thai boxing sometime too.

Barrie just sent me your email and I was going to see if we could catch up and meet each other when I arrive up in Bali next week, but you will be in Thailand and unfortunately I will be back in Perth by the time you arrive back in Bali. This will be my 15th time to Bali, so I’m sure we get to meet and have a chat on my 16th trip…….
