After visiting the Bali Intan Village hotel in Legian I went home, took a shower and called Barrie.
We agreed to meet at Internet Outpost and go somewhere for dinner. Coincidentally Josh Grillo from Washington DC was in town, just returned frim a great trip to Lombok, the neighboring island.
We went to Captain Haddocks on Jl. Benesari and had a pretty good time. Its not the bargain basement that Bamboo Corner is but still within range of a budget traveler.
I ordered the marlin with rice and vegetable in creamy sauce with boiled potatoes with mint. It was 22,000rp ( $ 2.70)
Chandika had nasi goreng Thailand, Gosh has a beef with pasta dish and Barrie ordered a spicy fried fish dish.
Not many people in the place but the atmosphere was still comfortable with good music.
I’m in Kondra internet right now and its slow. Internet Outrpost is having trouble with their connection too.
I’ll be going for a beer with Josh in Seminyak soon. He’s eager to get to the women after being in Lombok which has a high percentage of muslim folks.
Tomorrow is a big music festival in Jimbaran. Would be nice to see some of it depending on what time Chris arrives from Oregon.
There’s also a huge arts festival in Denpasar starting at 3pm for those interested. Ika at Internet Outpost advised me to take a taxi as it promises to be extremely busy.

There was a couple of things I forgot to mention in my earlier entry.
For those coming to Bali (or are here), you will find a lot of guys in the streets asking you constantly if you need transport to go on trips in the country or wherever. Be careful because you need to shop around and get the best price rather than jump at the first offer.
Here is a classic example. When we went up into the Holy Land, I checked out a few of these operators on the streets and of course the prices varied but not by much. Later that day, I was at the Internet Outpost telling Mellie about what I had been doing and she instantly organised a vehicle for just under half the price of what I had been quoted on the streets. The vehicle was superb (Aircon. etc) and the trip was fantastic as you all have read. In my honest opinion, if you want a really good and honest deal than go down to Internet Outpost and organise your trip from there. Yes I know this sounds like an advertisement, but it’s not. I’ve been on the tracks here for many years and belive me I was wrapped with IO. Give ‘em a go cos ya won’t be sorry.
The other thing matter is concerning the bomb site. The other day I was on the corner of Poppies Lane 2 & Jl Legian opposite the bomb site and I watched tourist after tourist stopping, glaring and then going beserk photographing in all directions and angles.
What concerned me mostly was across the road from these ‘foto ghouls’ were a group of Balinese looking in dismay at the antics of the westerners. The faces of the Balinese expressed not only a saddened embarrassment, but one of ‘why?’. If you are coming to Bali and plan to visit the bomb site then that’s okay BUT please, if you want to photograph the area then do it with discretion, respect, and a certain amount of tact. The Balinese feel bad enough about what has happened on their turf and truly don’t need their noses rubbed in it.
Saturday morning, th day after. Josh and I went out to Dhyana, talked to lots of interesting people and both went home alone.
One tactic I tried last night with much success was going to Cirlce K across the street, buying a coupl of large beers and walking back to the bars. Out here they don’t have door staff and basically nobody’s in charge so you can get away it.
I was telling Josh and Barrie about our friend Armadi who used to work at Captain Haddocks. She was an extremely hardworking waitress / host and knew may of he customers personally. The place definitely lost something when she left.
Barrie, if you were there, I would of got some action. To answer your question “No”. I did meet some lovely prospects for tonight’s outing, where ever that might be.
I’ll fill you in on the details later. Nick’s idea of getting beers from the Circle K and bringing them to the bars was genius. Good one, Nick.
I’ll catch up later with you guys.
Josh
Nick,
Genius streams through you obviously. Next time, instead of buying beer, get a couple of bottles of Jacks!.
Josh, I thought you were going to call those 2 Spanish jewellery buyers and ask them to check out your jewellery??.
Next time Josh I will come as your interpreter and the guarantee of you ‘getting some action’ will be hotter than the midday Bali sun!.
Nick, I checked out that restoran we passed last night - Warung Kita. Candika and I just had lunch there. I will write the restoran report later. The place has an extensive menu!
Nick,
I forgot to tell ya!. You definitely missed out on something this morning down at the Cottages.
There they were: The 3 sisters in bikinis doing laps of the swimming pool.
Of course I had to sit on the balcony to correlate a few notes and just happened to take a cursory glance OR two OR three!….
Barrie – ghoulishness is part of human nature – unattractive & unpleasant but it’s there. I been told about these tourist gawpers in Kuta – hard to understand and it doesn’t show much respect.
Josh – spill the beans re Lombok. I hear 2 different stories – that’s it’s an unspoilt version of Bali and, on the other hand, as it’s not Hindu it lacks the special character of Bali with more anti-western hassle. True or false?
Nick – great beer trick! Is this a 21st century Robin Hood thing? Taking from the rich night club owner and giving to the Balinese shopkeeper???
Noted for future use!
Barrie,
I think its time for you to fully share with everyone what’s been going on in your hotel pool.
As for the 3 sisters, please sms me next time they go for swim.
Is tubes still closed? can someone let me know I’m kinda curious. Thanks T
G’day Nick,
Great night eh. That’s what I like - good food, great company, stimulating conversation and a place with smooth atmosphere.
Josh, did you errrr…get some action?
