Formula 1 at Stadium Cafe in Tuban Bali

Sunday evening I stopped by Stadium Cafe on Jl. Kartika Plaza to see if any of the people I used to know are still around. I spotted Yuni, the cute waitress I went to Besakih with and Komang, the male cashier. My ex-girlfiend Yumi is long gome and is apparently working on a cruise ship in the US.

Stadium has Formula 1 racing on sundays and its a fun time. The thought of toy cars racing arind in cirlces seems rather silly, but they put enough spin on it to make it interesting. Todays race, the Turkish Grand Prix played to a pretty full house here in Kuta. I noticed that some people are regulars including Indonesians, who appear tp have favourites among the drivers. For some reason everyone wants Michael Schumacher to lose. I sat close to the front at one of the free tables and sippe a Bintang. Formula 1 is definitely acquired taste. The average Joe is not going to like it straight away, but it is very popular the higher up the IQ chart and income chart you go.

I like Formula 1 becasue of the cameras on the cars, scarring the crap out of me (imagime watching one of these races on acid!), the pitstops and the crashes. Stadium used to have a pre game fashion show which doesn't happen now, but anyway for Sunday evenings its a good arm up for your later entertainment.

Formula 1 is still massive in the UK, especially as most of the teams are based here.
They’re really going for the global market now with new races in Turkey, Shanghai, Bahrain etc.
You can imagine the dollar signs when they think of the marketing possibilities in the Far East.

Its funny I was sitting next to a table of guys from Jakarta and they were loving it. The same type of guys who go out and spend $10,000 on a Harley Davidson here in Indonesai will go for F1. THere’s definitely a market.

I was watching one shot of the long straightaway and noticed about 10 signs for Panasonic. Each section of the track is sponsored by someone and the cash put out is huge. The new track in Turkey cost $150.
