Great Photo, Nick!
Those boats are always so colourful, are these patterns and colours symbolic or representative of anything at all??….or are they just colourful like the people of bali themselves.
Cheers Jodie.
Paul I don’t know about the colors, they are great to look at though.
Article in the Jakarta Post that is a warning for those who imbibe:

Re Barries article in Jakata Post about man with Drugs – Is there a drugs problem in Bali ? What drugs are a problem Soft drugs – Dope etc or harder Drugs (cocaine and heroin/ectasy etc) I take it it is not like Portugal at the moment where Cannabis can be smoked on streets ? Are the police really strict re Drug Possession….Clubbers with Ectasey %high in Ibiza…..Bali is it different ?
Mark, the cops over here are very strict on drugs and most expats don’t even smoke marijuana. The only time I hear of drugs is at night whenvarious locals are offering ecstacy and I read in the newspaper that some Brasilian or Italian has been caught bringing in cocaine.
I’m not exactly in the party scene but from my point of view there seems to be very little drugs going around.
Hi Mark,
You’ll get offered drugs on the streets but its best just to refuse and carry on enjoying your stay.
Anyway, who needs chemicals to take you to paradise when you are already there!.
Drugs are a big No-No in Indonesia and Malaysia. At the moment there are 33 persons in Keroban some on death row- for drug offences. The latest is an American who had 33gms (I think) and is spending the next 6 years of his life in there.
Locals are very strong in anti drug enforcement – they don’t want their children going down the same route.
BTW the person offering you the drug maybe an undercover policeman or an informer.
The best way I think to clean it up.
cheers
There is another thing I forgot to mention. If you are carrying prescription drugs, then don’t forget to get a letter from your GP.
I was caught several years ago in Jawa and it took a lot of persuading that the little white pills in my shoulder bag were in fact for epilepsy!.

Thanks for your input folks on a very important subject. I have extensive knowledge of people serving long (if not life) sentences in prisons that are hell on earth. The infamous Bang Kwang in Thailand is a place i am an expert on for one, due to giving someone a bit of hope by being a pen pal. This person was silly enough to make a mistake because he was so stoned at the time and pais dearly for it. 10 yrs and some of them in solitary, b4 the UK and AUstralia ratified a treaty that deignated prisoners could be taken back to their countries of origin after serving so long to serve the remainder of the sentence. Now as you could imagine with 50 to a cell in sweltering temperatures diseases of all sorts flourished and come down heavy on the inmate. I wont go into what this chap caught but will only tell you that he used to say to me that a few mnutes of ignorance cost him his life really. His advice….not even if offered billions to bring back drugs from A to B would he even contemplate it again. Yes through reading ‘The Damage Done’ by Warren Fellows and my former pen pal in Bang Kwang Thailands harrowing letters i will always be so paranoid i will check my bags B4 boarding a flight to any countries where i now there are strict Drug Laws to be adhered to folks.
I have heard of some terrible stories of people just like myself who thought they could make a quick Buck and ended up visiting Hell on Earth. Yes as the song says ‘JUST SAY NO’.
Regardez Mark
