If you like good Javanese food then head out to a place on Jalan Raya Kuta in Tuban called Plengkung. Their specialty, roasted chicken, makes the Colonel's stuff seem like bland tucker.
It's a delightful open, bale style restoran that gets incredibly busy every night and not surprisingly with its array of delicious dishes and sambals.
The Plengkung Restoran is a fabulous and relaxing place to enjoy all the epicurean delights Java has to offer. I spotted Ikan Asin, cured salted fish, but was told firmly that I must try the roasted chicken. I must admit it was delicious and cooked with a spice mixture that apparently is a secret.
With the generous portions of roasted chicken breast, you can imbibe in Tofu warmed to a nice crispness, Oseng Tempe with green peppers, and the usual nasi putih. Also available for your delight is the Daun Kemangi, an edible fragrant leaf that had much the same taste as Coriander.

Their menu is extensive and they also have a great selection of seafoods. When I went there a few of us really gave our stomachs a hard time in general and pigged-out to our heart's content. The final bill of Rp62,000 for 3 people surprised me. Good value for money and definite melt-in-the-mouth chicken. Move over Colonel!.

Hi Vivienne,
I love the place!. Actually I went there with some friends of my wife Candika the first time, and returned many times. It is one of those restorans where you can sit and relax, chill out and enjoy a fabulous atmosphere. Oh yeah, and the tucker is tops!.

Hi Rina,
At one time I bought a fairly decent meat pie and a sausage roll at a Circle K. That was the one near the corner of Jl Legian & Poppies lane 2.
Breadtalk is great if you have a REALLY sweet tooth!.
Wombat, i have just returned from Bali (4th time this year) and just read your review about Plengkongs, i was surprised as i frequent this restaurant many times on my visits to bali, On my departure each time this is were me and my indonesian friends always have my farewell dinner, i was there last Wednesday night with 10 friends, the food was superb and the total bill for all in total was 245,000 rupiah, you can not get better than that for value, also the music duo are great except that they always sing “leaving on a jet plane” to me so of course i am always crying, i think the staff always remember me as “the crying oz girl”, the atmosphere is always very warm and friendly.i hope more people read this comment and visit plengkongs!
