Eating out with Laurel in Seminyak Bali

Tuesday night Laurel and I paid a visit to Rumors restaurant on Jl. Oberoi in Seminyak.

This place is packed out every night of the week. A central bar, party atmosphere, low prices and decent food is their key to success.

I had a lovely steak and mashed potato and Laurel had the lobster. My meal was very filling for 25,000rp ($3). Laurel liked the food so much it made her head spin.

I can recommend Rumors to visitors who are looking for a good time but don’t want to break the bank in the process.

We rode over to Mixwell bar just down the street from my house on Jl. Dhyana Pura for an arak madu. Mixwell is a surfer bar and is usually pretty empty. Its not a pick up joint and reminds me of a Santa Barbara laid back bar, bright dcor, surfboards and plenty of types of liquor.

My problem when I see soccer on the tv is I can’t keep my eyes off it. I apologized to Laurel and was surprised to here that she loves soccer and actually has played with some of the US Women’s team years ago.

We watched Porto from Portugal play Deportivo La Caruna from Spain in the European Champions League. One cool thing about my house is even though its close to the party scene I can’t really hear much noise and I slept great after getting home.

Food to make one’s “head spin” has to be out of this world. Good shot and comment.

Nick or alternat. Barrie or Tracey D.

I have been following Nicks adventures with interest since stumbling across the site purely by accident (reading travel stories during the day to pass time and check out possible places to visit)
As i have stated b4 i have never been to the island of GOds and smiling faces
in beutiful places. It is wierd really because i feel as if i have been b4. This is due to the excellent Blogs from Nick with those great photos to really rub it in. Barrie and Tracey will know what i mean.(counting down the days till they return) Well i would be interested to see if each of you has a favourite time to visit (duration pref 3wks to a month)
Now i at a guess from reading the Blogs would pick June July August and perhaps September, for the following reasons;
Dry long sunny days and hot but not humid. I would be interested to hear what your favourite time is and reasons for etc and also any other people who have an interesting reply to make.

Regs/Thanks
Mark
Still smiling

Mark,
It just happened this way, not sure if it was the best time or not, I guess with my seasonal work, it just kind of worked out this way, I used to leave Aust on Dec 26th most years & stay for 6-8 months then return work my butt off, save & return again on Dec 26th, I love big, huge massive New Years Eve parties though!!?
Now adays whenever we can get there will be the best time for us!??
But I thinbk there are more Europeans around July…
I know in Jan, Feb, March it can really, really rain, causing WONDERFUL rivers down the back alley ways, if you don’t like that idea then go mid year!
I also love hot weather so the humidity etc is not a problem for me!!!

G’Day Nick,

Nice read. Hey we gotta go to Rumours when I return. Just looking at the foto, it looks a td like Warung 96 on a Friday night!. The food pricing is so reasonable as well. Good one mate.

Hey Mark,

I really don’t have a preference when I return home to Indo as far as seasons are concerned. ANYTIME there is a good time. Over the last twenty odd years I have been travelling to and around Indo, I have pretty much covered every month of the year.
If I was pinned down for a preference then it would have to be the wet season. Just love those electric thunderstorms…and muddy puddles!.

Mark, I think any time that Barrie or Tracey are there would definitely be the BEST time to visit Bali.

Angie, what an idea!!! A couple of bottles of Bundy Rum, get the music going on at my place and we’d have a hell of a party on our hands.

Hey Nick,

I raised the subject a while ago (many moons in fact!)about the possibility of having a Baliblog Party. BnA does them all the time and so I reckon with a bit of crafty manipulating and timing of suitable dates[for everyone], the Inaugural Baliblog Party could commence!.
Whatdya reckon?

Ah ha,Barrie, I think this has been Nick’s crafty plan all along, you know, setting up the barbie & the mood lighting and all. Here we were thinking he was doing it for chicks when really all along it was for us!!
Will I get to meet you Barrie, when are you coming? We will be there from around 29 July to 14 September.

Nick maybe you could organise a poll to suss out the best time to PARRRTAAAY

Hi Angie,

Actually there is no crafty plan by Nick, although it is rather convenient the way he has set up house n’ all!.

I raised the idea of a Baliblog party last June when I was in Bali. It died a sloweath, BUT, I thought it would be a good idea to raise the prospect again!.

Because everybody seems to be arriving at odd times this year, perhaps if we arranged something for say 2005. This way, providing all of us can work on a date that is suitable for all concerned, and, if Nick agrees with the idea, we can all start making plans.

It would be a great buzz having all of us Balibloggers and lovers of Bali together so that we can rage [say for a week!] and get to know each other person to person instead of through the stroke of a key on a keyboard!.

Can you imagine it Angie!. Hey, in Bahasa Indo there is a word…AMOK!.

Roght oh Nick, the ball is in your court (not coconut ones!)or would you prefer another organiser.

Yes, Nick lets do it, we are all just busting to run amok at your place.

Barrie, me thinks we need a few practice party runs in the meantime!!

Hi Angie,

Sounds great!. What needs to be done is have some input on suggested dates for 2005. Hey Nick, what’s your idea about the party mate?.

2005, okay I’ll have enough time to dig a pool.

G’Day Nick,

Fill the pool with ice to keep all the drinks cold. Esky besar!.

Great you agree with the idea mate and 2005 will give everybody time to organise things around whatever date is chosen. All we need now is input from all who wish to atend. I’ll place a posting on one of the upcoming posts of yours to get some ideas if that’s okay with you.
