East Bali road trip part II

Candi Dasa is a great place to base yourself to explore East Bali, especially if you need access to the internet, moneychangers and a choice of restaurants. Our hotel has a pool and there are plenty of places on the main street, with or without a pool.

The noise from traffic doesn't seem to be a problem for us as our room is far enough away and traffic dies down in the evening. Chris and I are sitting in a little 3 machine internet cafe with old machines and slow access. You can't do any real work online here as a page takes 30 seconds to load, but you can check email and stay in touch. The price is 400 rp per minute, or 24,000rp per hour. Not cheap, but in this part of the island you take what you can get.

Candi Dasa does have some tourists here right now, who seem to be mostly from Europe. Last night we chatted with a guy from Scotland and his wife who, guess what, want to relocate to Bali. Guess what else? They are still figuring out how to make a buck and his idea is to search for old BSA and BMW motorbikes that he thinks are buried around the island, and fix them up. Sounds like looking for gold dust to me, but I wish him luck as he was a very entertaining fellow.
