Dry Season weather makes life more pleasant in Bali

padma_bali_052505.jpgToday is May 25th and that means the rainy season is well and truly over. Looking at a weather graph you will notice we have not had any substantial rain this month. For people on holiday that means generally clear skies and lower humidity. I like this time of year because in a weird kind of way it is Fall (Autumn) in Bali. The sunny days are great and the early mornings and late evenings feel very pleasant, that bake-house feeling has been relieved. Visitors arriving in July-September will enjoy lovely weather and mornings and late nights can be chilly on the motorbike. I notice the changes because in the wet season I have to use AC when sleeping. Just typing on my porch the sweat is dripping off of me. As the year progresses I will turn off the AC and just use a fan (that is where we are right now).

A month or so from now I might dispense with the fan and in August I might use a light blanket. Amazing that the climate in August at sea level, in Bali, which is 8 degrees from the equator, can be pleasant. For Europeans and Americans who do not like super hot climates July-September are the months to come. The ocean is cooler too, the waves bigger.

Altitude greatly affects temperature and a motorbike ride through the highlands to the north coast (3 hours from Kuta-Singaraja) will see some big temperature swings. You will need long pants and a jacket, especially if you plan on staying in the highlands overnight.

One tip I have for people visiting Bali during this sunny part of the year. Bring a decent sun hat. The hats over here really are no good and I see many white-skinned people walking around without a hat.

G’Day Nick,

Just looking at that foto makes me wanna get on a plane!. Good advice for those heading to Bali to always wear a hat of some kind.

Oh Yeah!. But at least with a bald head you give the mossies a skateboarding rink!.

And besides, when it does rain, you don’t have a soggy mop on your head.
