Dinner with Dave and Ika in Seminyak Bali
Tonight I went to Gateway of India on Jalan Dhyana Pura with Ika, an employee at Internet Outpost and her boyfriend Dave from Sulawesi.
Ika is leaving to work for Carnival cruises out of Miami in few days and Dave hopes to get a job in a hotel in Dubai.
I’ve known Ika since my first week here in Bali and shes a friendly familiar face. I know that working for Carnival won’t be a cake walk but for an Indonesian its a great opportunity to make money. I told Ika about my time working for the Dwowntown Athletic Club in Eugene Oregon ( 6 years slog for a better life ). I told her to talk to people, network with tourists and definitely take a 100 sarongs for sale when the ships dock on an island. Carvinal do 3-7 days cruises in the Caribbean and are loaded with party minded Americans. If Ika can get ashore on her day off and set up a little display she might pull in some money with the silver jewelry etc.
Gateway of India has a pretty extensive Indian menu and I choose a vegetable curry, Dave a Tandoori chicken and Ika some kind of pancake with a pot of Chicken curry. Together with naan bread and some samosas it was very nice. I definitely wanted to do something with Ika before she left and this was cool.
I was supposed to meet up with Barrie to see some live music but his phone doesn’t work right now and that’s doubtful.
Am here at I/O, its Saturday night, who knows what will happen. Might just go and watch the music by myself anyway.

If I were still in town, I would have gladly gone with you. If it’s any consolation, I bought myself a matinee ticket for 42nd Street in LA today. It should be interesting. Since I got back, I’ve been asleep at 2pm.
I remember Ika. She was really nice. Pls tell her to feel free to contact me if she needs something when she’s in the US.

Great to hear Ika got that job! Now she will get to see some of the world..although Miami wouldn’t be my forst choice. Would you give her my email and tell her if she ever gets some time off in the states she has a place to stay. She was a big help to me at the internet when Geoff was sick…..bye for now…marie
