Today after a breakfast at Cafe Moke with my French friend Patrice , who is becoming a father agian any day soon, I went to Global Xtreme in Kerobokan. This is a great place to check e-mail and enjoy one of their huge coffees.
The starter on my bike isn’t working well right now and I have to use the kicker to get it going. I don’t care except sometimes the bike stalls in gear and I can’t get it into neutral which means an exciting and awkward starting experience.
I decided to go to Denpasar for some promotional activity and enjoy the traffic, one way system and atmosphere of a capital city. I must say this is my least favourite part of Bali and I never enjoy coming here. The one way system is a nightmare and once you get off track good luck getting back on it.
I was told there wa a internet cafe at the Ramayana department store so headed for that. After a couple of misdirections and loops I somehow made it. This department store has cheap items that are aimed at locals. The store ahas about 4 floors all packed with stuff including this knock off Polo shirt.
They just couldn’t get the label right.
I stopped at the food court at this muslim joint for some soto ayam ( chicken soup ). It was pretty good and had noodles in the bottom and the standard egg in the middle.
I headed back to Kuta after soem time and cruised with the traffic no problem. Arriving downtown there was a huge traffic jam on Jl. Legian, don’t know why except I could see too many wide vehicles, SUV’s etc. trying to inch past each other with me and all the motorcycle riders climbing up on the sidewalk and slithering past the cars.
I took the Benesari entance off of Jl. Legian and visited our riends at Captain Haddocks. They has recently painted the front part and it still smelt. Kadek was the head waitress when I was there and made me an arak drink.
I was lucky enough to meet the owner Laurant from France who does a great line in cultural tours here in Bali.
Now at Internet Outpost which is mostly empty.

Love to get a pair of those Oblong and Wangki jeans.
Hey Nick,
Don’t forget to eat at Batan Waru in Ubud. Love to you.
Jeffrey
I’ll call you…………………..
Glenn. I’d say the Kuta area is somewhat quiet at the moment, but there is action up on Jl. Dhyana Pura, that place is vry busy late at night.
I rode past the HRC last night and there was a Harley Davidson covention there. Harley riders have been seen all over town the last few days riding some fantastic looking bikes.
I’d say the HRC is doing okay, don’t know about the hotel I nevr stayed there.
Chris. Oblong & Wangki could be Indonesian for ‘cool’.
Jeffrey. Thanks for the kind thoughts. ( For those who don’t know Jeffrey is realted to Brianna, Devin and Barbara who own Peaceful Valley Alpacas in Eugene Oregon ).
I’ll check out Batan Waru and look for your stick men next time in Ubud.
Nick, did you have any hassles with security in Denpasar considering the trials are on there now?.
Loved the foto of Kadek!. She is a beautiful lady. Shit, hope my wife doesn’t read this!.
Barrie,
I am totally stoked, just got some positive news from a Migration Agent about being able to apply now, but the visa won’t be granted before Sept 15th!
I am excited, will be rushing home to call my hubby & let him know!!!
So as soon as our feet touch the ground we will be running around sorting out his parts of the application & then off to the Consulate!!! So happy now!
Have3 a great w/end!
Tracey, CONGRATS!. I am so pleased and excited for you. Since you are studying Bahasa Indo, saya ingin ucapkan pada kamu dan suamimu kebahagiaan dan kebersamaan untuk selama-lamanya.
Truly Tracey, your news has made my day!.
No hassles in Denpasar, but have seen miliatry police all over the place, even around my area in Seminyak.
Kadek is beautiful. This place could drive a fellow crazy.
Aduh Nick!,
Ya ‘nicked’ my name! (see post above). Thanks for the info on Denpasar. At least now we know that the miliatry will be prevalent there when the Arts Festival is on. Glad to read they are prevalent in Seminyak cos that’s where I’ll be in 13 days.
Has anyone got the email for the Sakura store at the top of the Ramayana Dept Store
I have been a frequent visitor to Kuta , the last time being October 2002. My last memories are obviously not very pleasant and i would lke to but that right by coming back in May. Could anyone give me an idea what its like at the moment. Im particulary interested to know what the Hard Rock Hotel is like, how is Centerstage in the evening and is the HRC still rocking. Last time i was there there was a three day ban on music. Is there some life coming back into the place ?
