Death toll rises to 3,700 in Java quake

The death toll now stands at 3,700 in the Java earthquake. Yogyakarta in Central Java, experienced a 6.3 quake early on Saturday morning. The epicenter was close to the famous Borobudor site.

Population density and slack building practices have made the situation worse, with flimsy concrete structures splitting and disintegrating. Here in Bali we did not feel the quake or the after shocks.

good to know that bali is not affected by the quake and has not experienced aftershocks. there are no travel advisories yet, and hardly anyone can answer our questions from Singapore - maybe because it’s too soon. will keep my eye on your site till i get there next week. would you know if there are any official earthquake or tsunami warnings directed to bali? - oh, by the way, how’s the weather?
