Danish Consulate to stay open in Bali

Denmark has closed its Embassy in Jakarta due to threats from an extremist group. The cartoons of Prophet Mohammed have stirred up passions around the world and the local loonies don’t want to be left out. Indonesian politicians are saying there is no need for that, but its not their neck.

For Danish visitors to Bali the news is good. There have been no demonstrations here and the Danish Consulate is staying open. I called them this morning and the lady told me they had no plans to close and had not heard any news from Jakarta.

On many Bali websites the address of the British Consulate is listed as Jl. Mertasari in Sanur. I know for a fact that the British Consulate moved a year ago to the other side of the Bypass at Jl. Tirta Nadi.
