Corby case brings the 'Kato's out of the woodwork

Every high profile case needs it eccentric characters. The OJ Simpson trial had Kato Cailin, the Corby trail has her lead attorney, Hotman Paris Hutapea from Jakarta. Corby's Perth legal advisors smelt a rat as soon as they got here with the Bali legal team suggesting the best way for a result was to get $500,000 to the appeal judges. They were fired, then re-hired and now Hotman has come on board.

What is funny about this guy is he actually admit to meeting judges behind closed doors to discuss the results he wants, AND admits to sending them monetary gifts afterwards. He's not only a member of the bar, he's a celebrity. I guess when you are swimming in corruption, the best swimmer gets some attention.

There's no doubt why this guy took the case (a lot of money is slopping around) and there's no doubt how he'll try to get a result (slop some of that money his way and the court's way). What will be interesting is how they are going to word the 'not guilty' conclusion seeing as so many people are watching.

G’Day Nick,

This whole thing could backfire on Corby and the sentence be extended. This dude Hutapea is a celebrity lawyer and although flamboyant to the point of spewsville, his outrageous attitude will do more harm than good.

Heck, that’s only my opinion, but, the Balinese judges won’t take too lightly to some big-top circus dude putting pressure on them.
