Baliblog has existed for over 2 year now and my role has been to fill in the information, both personal and general to keep people up to date on what is happening out here. I feel its time to fill in more of the picture, share a little more of the motivation, the real reasons for coming to Bali.
Bali for me was a place I visited many years ago on a round the world trip. I had no idea that my controllers would assign me to a position here. Its actually a fluke to be honest that Bali came to be a reality at all, my planned destination was to be India. Terrorist events and the rise of Jamaah Islamiyah in late 2002 meant a sudden change in plan and we organized an office in Bali. After spending many years in the US, Indonesia took some getting used to and my old colleagues in the agency seem far away now.
Gathering information can take a whole manner of styles and the Baliblog cover was ideal for me to pursue sources that the folks back at Langley Virginia approved of. National security, US that is, has far reaching sources and covert-ops are all part and parcel of the modern theater of operation.
On a daily basis a motorbike, cell phone, binoculars, GPS and fingerprint set are my tools in trade, foreign consulates and mosques my usual objects of interest. A recent addition to the roof of my house in Seminyak is an antenna. This enables me to receive microwave transmissions that are bounced off the moon 24/7, ( I can also get all the major League games live and re-runs of I Love Lucy).
As long as Baliblog continues I hope to learn about the Balinese culture and keep a close eye on the goings on in Bali.

Hey Nick,
Too funny!! I wonder how many will actually wonder if there is a bit of truth to this? Anything is possible in the world we live in today.
Happy celebrating!!
Jane
We have known this for quite a long time, Mr. Nick. The Indonesian government has been tracking you, and your double agent, Ika, with her triple agent baby.
We will be in touch. Watch your back!
All along here I thought you were MI-6. Yeah, you gotta keep an eye on those Euro tourists. Ya never know. Especially those dutch guys. Didn’t you watch Austin Powers? Gold Member. Wasn’t he a Dutchie?
Happy April 1.
Listen Agent Orange, just be careful Ika isn’t part of an Indonesian honey trap. Maybe you know that and are going for the double bluff.
Is my cover blown?
I almost choked when I saw this link on the CIA website.

Great site. I am coming to Bali next month for a week or so before doing a boat trip. I saw what appeared to be some nice accommodation which had rcently been built on the left had side of Dreamlands when I was here last year. I was hoping to chill there for a few days when I arrive. Do you have any details of the accom at Dreamlands? Don’t want top go too low budget - a few basic features would be nice. Cheers Dave
Oh yeah, nice joke for 1 April, Nick! ![]()
hi nick we are in same bussines here,.. introducing my name is Bond ,.. James Bond
i will very worried after posting something like that on the site…
Be careful Nick, some dumb ass Indonesian counter-intelligent agents might just believe you.
It’s not that you’ll be in trouble. it’s just that they might start coming to you to sell state secrets. You’d beter have the money when they do. LOL. Take care mate!
Wondering how alive and well you and your site are, given no posts for 4 months (and the ones preceding somewhat dangerous sounding!).
Avoiding doing a paper on Bali at present, hence I turned you up in my research.
Spent some time in Bali over the years, love it, would go back in an instant. But it’s so far from Canada’s West Coast (probably why it’s still so nice).
Understand it has been tough since the bombings. Too bad, really. The Balinese deserve better (like to be left alone!).
Thanks for the laugh!
