Sunday night Chris and met up with Barrie and Chandika at Captain Haddocks restaurant on Jalan Benesari. This little corner place is cool to hang out in and has a menu that features Thai, American, Indonesians, Italian and French.
I usually go for the French food as its a treat for me. The place was rather empty when Chris and I arrived and I immediately ordered a bowl of fish soup and a small Bintang.
Our waitress was Sri who’s been on th blog before. She’s very positive and always makes an effort to be friendly.
Barrie and Chandika arrived and pretty soon we ordered our main course. Chandika went for the Udang Sambal ( shrimp in chili sauce ), Barrie had a fish with rice, Chris had a chicken dish and I went for strips of beef in a creamy French sauce with pasta.
We sat at a 4 person table near the entrance and the large table in the foreground was soon populated by several French people including the owner Laurant. They cracked open the red wine and the Indonesia songs soon followed.

Chris and I said goodbye to Barie and Chandika and took off for Seminyak. We strolled down the Woodstock bar on Jalan Oberoi but it was closed so we came back to the Aina bar which is on Jalan Oberoi just off of Jalan Seminyak. The bar was empty but I saw Aina ( fom Austria ) and her husband Agung.
Chris and I ordered a couple of cold ones and then grabbed the backgammon set for a fun little session which saw Chris take the title 4-3.
Aina bar gets going late on Friday and Saturday nights especially. I like the way it spills out onto the street like Santa Fe. My friend Miguel told me when I got here that Jalan Dhyana Pura is the hip street right now but Jalan Oberoi is developing and could be a contender with places like Woodstock and Aina opening, plus a selection of restaurants ranging fom Mykonos to Toscana to Bintang Lima.
