Chit chat in Seminyak Bali

While in C'bu Italian restaurant tonight I was chatting to one of the waiters and he said on the local TV news there was some report of Bali police catching people from Jakarta coming over by ferry from Lombok, terror related. I have no idea about this but I know Bali police is tightening up security at Gilimanuk, the port I west Bali that handles traffic from Java.

An expat guy told me a few months go that at a major hotel in East Bali, hotel police caught 5 guys on the beach signaling to a ship in the middle of the night. They searched them and found 5 passports on each guy, cell phones and GPS systems. I said is sounded like a drug run, but my friend said he thought it was an attempted terror attack on a hotel. I wasn't convinced, but he said the Bali cops took the guys on the ferry to Lombok, 5 got on 2 got off, but the cops had the whole story. Who knows what really happened, but in the light of recent events its shows there is more going on than meets the eye.

Given the high level of corruption and the Anti Foreigner bias of many Lombok Polda, i find it easy to accept that the Polda supporta JI activities. The Polda scare me more than JI as their hold on power is far greater than any terrorist organisation.

“…there is more going on than meets the eye”.
You’re damn right about that. Go to http://www.sbs.com.au/dateline this Thursday for the transcript of Tomorrow night’s edition of Dateline on SBS TV (Aust). It will be all about links between BIN and the bombmakers.
The Oct 1 Bali bombs were primarily an attempt to destabilize the Indonesian gov’t - by killing tourism.
The bombers may have succeeded. The reality is that all tourists eat at restaurants, and the fear of a visiting suicide bomber will not enhance their dining experience! I will continue to choose Java over Bali for a relaxing holiday, but I suspect that most holidaymakers will in future choose a different country for RELAXATION.
Once bitten, twice shy. Twice bitten, ……….?

It is obvious that the indonesian muslims are kissing the Arabs’ arses. Sadly though, the Arabs don’t reward the indonesian for their efforts. The dirt poor indonesian musilims are paying high dollars for the Arab’s oil. But, the Arabs, who are already mighty wealhty, have no intentions to help their fellow muslims in indonesia.

It is interesting to note that in indonesia, the Arabs are generally percieved as being extreem cheapskates. :->

Unyil has it exactly right. These muslims should be considered foreign agents of the Saudis. They are not at all concerned with Indonesia, but rather, are the worst sort of traitors to this Country. The Arabs are the imperialists of the 21st Century, imposing their intolerant culture on a once tolerant society. Its time for us to rise up in the name of pancasila and smash these agents of the Arabs.

I would also like to hear more about this rumour. Only one major hotel in East Bali comes to mind.

the Balinese are very religious yet they have no conflict with foreign tourists. In fact, they practice religion in such a peaceful way that tourists greatly admire their religion and wish to learn more about it. For this reason alone, foreigners should support the Balinese as much as possible. Let’s face it, we are more likely to be killed in an car accident or something. The most important thing is the terrorist scum are the losers.

Good to see as well that there is increasing pressure to get Amrozi and his mates executed.

But what execution method would be best?:

as Balinese he never believe the concept of religion or militant bombing in Bali. It just act from super power country who want to ruin Indonesia and stopping being the next China.

i completely agree..the genius and sincere Balinese..Mr. Gde Wiratha

KOMPAS newspaper is a thrash !!

Here are the reasons:

1. Bad editing. It uses low class Bahasa with poor and erroneous grammar.

2 It often uses incorrect English words when Bahasa words could be used instead.

3. Bad Journalism. It plagiarizes stories from overseas sources. It does not even attempt to re-tell the story; it just translates the stories, but gives no credits to the original sources.

4. It does not do investigative journalism on corruptions, and other ills plaguing the society. Instead, it chooses to be on the side line and wait for scandalous stories to pop out by themselves before reporting them.

If Kompas is as good as it gets, then the indonesian media has a long way to go.

Agreed Kompass is poor. But Tempo is fantastic; and the Jakarta Post is quite good too.

Tempo ? yeah Tempo was fantastic, but now they’re suck, sometimes they put the “smooth” article of jihad, and support jihad activities.

Pikiran-rakyat too, the FPI supply their doctrine to them

Don’t know about Tempo as I haven’t read it for a long time. Once it was good, but Suharto destroyed it. Damn you Suharto!

Jakarta Post? Hmmm… coz the circulation is so small - only among expats and english speaking indoensians - it does not have enough money to do serious reportings. Most of its news are second-hands, but at least it has better editing and better journalism ethics than many others.

I used to like Pos Kota :-> At least it does not try to pretend to be a heavy weight unlike Kompas.
