Check this out in Seminyak Bali!

After dealing with busy schedules and family duties I finally managed to get to meet AJ Hackett, the founder of bungee jumping, in Seminyak Bali.

AJ is from New Zealand and lives most of the year in France, he’s in Bali with his wife and kids and we got a chance to sit down for a chat around 6pm today.

One of AJ’s managers from Cairns Australia had offered m a free jump and I was game for an experience.

A full account of this including the procedure will appear tomorrow but all I’ve got to say is take a look at this.

Do you notice how far down the beach is? I did.

Bloody hell, Nick! I saw that tower when I was walking down the beach and it’s bloody high. But I guess without your glasses it probably doesn’t look that bad, eh? :-)

Hey Nick,
No one in their right mind would actually jump from up there. Right? You must have had your eyes closed or you would never have done it. YIKES!!! OHH, NO!

Thanks for the blurb in your daily column — it was great meeting you.

I’ll tell all those who have never jumped that’s it at this precise moment that your pulse raste is the highest. From that point on its all pleasure.

This shot of my first jump was taken with my camera by the man who invented bungy jumping. Is that cool or what!

Lily, it was my pleasure to spend time with you and Zoe. Great to hear from you on the blog.

This is the closest I will ever get to bungy jumping.
Looking at it as background on the desktop
A better man than I - said gunga din.
Just a question - how did you feel as you were pulled back up? Have always been curious about how the brain and body spin.

Juliette,

The bungy is designed so you will hang freely half way between the platform and the ground. When I reached the halfway point going down I was beginnig to slow, even though I didn’t know it.

So I went from fast to stop from mid point to ground level, the whole thing is very smooth so are the bounces.

What is surprising is how big the bounces, particularly the first one is.

I’d definitely consider doing a jump, it not about danger or being tough or better, its about letting go and anyone can do that.

Great pic. I jumped at AJ Hackett’s in Cairns. Its the best thing I have ever done in my life. I am hooked and planning my next holiday around jump sites. Its such a rush and gives you such a feeling of achievement afterwards. Confronting overcoming fear.
