Cartoons have been getting way too much attention these days, with adults behaving like 5 years olds because someone drew a nasty one. The genre has just been furthered by Indonesian and Australian newspapers publishing cartoons of each other’s President in a compromising position.
The way these things get blown out of proportion, newspaper editors should know better. The Weekend Australian published a cartoon with a dog like SBY ‘doin’ it’ with a person from Papua.
Sunday is tomorrow and that means all the trouble maker in Jakarta will have the day off. The Australian Embassy issued an alert in case of protests or other more serious forms of response. The Age comments further, no doubt feeling a little superior right now.

An interesting passage in The Age piece:
The cartoon was published in the Islamic-leaning Rakyat Merdeka (People’s Freedom) and was prompted by Australia granting temporary visas to 42 Papuan asylum seekers who arrived by boat.
I never know that Rakyat Merdeka in any way has ever lean in Islam or Islamic way. On the contrary Rakyat Merdeka might be considered trashy or vulgar by some Islamic factions.
Reading “news” like this, I feel eery…
How some people will always stamp something “bad” with Islamic image of some Islamic links.
I think the difference is that the cartoon of howard and downer was actually copied from a photogragh of the two doing what they do.
