I managed to book a flight to Bangkok via Bandar Seri Begwan ( bet you don't know where that is! ) and feel good that I am going.
To update you its for my 6 monthly visa run plus some promotions. As I was booking the ticket Kadek at Okie House said ” Nick no need to go to Bangkok, my friend in immigration can bring stamp for you.” Connections!
No sign of my cell phone and I’ve been telling everyone I meet not to call me.
Spent this afternoon visiting internet cafes in the Legian / Melasti area. The huge ‘art market’ area in Melasti looked seriously devoid of customers.
Was chatting to a young man in a a bar on Legian from Bangli who told me his dad is a farmer. The costs for food here in Bali are low because the raw materials, rice, chicken, pork, beef, vegetables are cheap. He said his dad asked him to come back to the farm but he prefers to learn about the tourist industry and start a tourist related business as farming is hard.

G’Day Nick,
I had to laugh when I saw the foto of the art market on Jl Melasti. That was 7th heaven for Candika!.
Nick, will you still be going to Bangkok for ‘promotion purposes’?.
Interesting to read about that guy from Bangli and how he wants to start a tourism-related business.
I just purchased the 2nd edition of ‘The Alternative Travel Guide’ from New Internationalist mag, and was surprised to see there were only 5 entries for Indonesia. Basically the book tells you of places in the world that are traveller/tourist related where the profits are filtered back into the village and the people, instead of a ‘company’ and the whole gig is run by the locals.
Nick,
Do you happen to know what the best route is to London from Asia? I’ve been trying to find tickets online, but they’re outragious…cheaper to fly from the states than here. (Taiwan) Let me know if you can help.
Thanks,
Tallia
Nick - we know where Bandar Seri Begwan is . . .our flight into Brunei was a 3 day stopover. The floating villages are interesting if you have a few hours to kill between connections.
