Blessing the cars in Kerobokan Bali

Saturday morning at Global Xtreme on Jalan Raya Kerobokan I was quietly sipping my oversized Bali coffee brought to me by Iloo when I noticed a lady in traditional costume sprinkling holy water over all the monitors and performing a blessing with insense. A while later the owner. Hengky asked if I would like to come outside and watch a car being blessed. I said sure, this seemed like an interesting event. Downstairs a shiny SUV was being given the treatment by a couple of ladies and Mimi, the manager of Global was on hand too. She posed with a rooster that was being controlled by its owner.

I found out this was the day in Bali where cars and motorbikes should be blessed. I am wondering whether I should get my camera and laptop taken in for good luck.

I never get tired of watching Balinese people perform offerings because their outfits are colorful. the people are graceful and whole things gives a peaceful feeling.

[ side note : as I'm writing this in my room the time is 1719 hrs. The temperture is pretty hot and the sun is shining into the room. I'm sweating like a 'kampung ayam' (village chicken) in a temple and have just opened a large Bintang from my fridge. Bagus kali....that's better! ]

Outside ladies sprinkled water and flowers and hopefully this SUV will have a very safe year ahead.

It’s amazing, the time and care put into such blessings/ ceremonies. I have come to much appreciate the Balinese culture of veneration. Great pictures!
