Bird Flu: Indonesia to cull chickens
The Avian flu is as global as McDonalds now, with outbreaks in Germany and the Middle East. Most of the world’s flu viruses start in China, that has been the case for many years, due to the number of people living in close proximity to chickens and pigs.
Indonesia has had 19 fatalities so far, mostly in the Jakarta area. The government has decided to cull all birds in a 1 km radius of any infected birds. Owners will get $1 per bird.
Visitors to Bali need not worry, no one has been infected here yet and your chicken supply is plentiful.
