The latest BootsnAll members in Bali are Bill and his girlfriend Susy who have been touring SE Asia and are planning to spend 2 months here. Bill is a surfer come computer genius ( MySQL database for those who know what that is) . Susy has graduated from college in England with a masters in graphic design and having dual nationality ( British and American ) has spent the last year working as a server in a restaurant in Washington DC.
Bill and Susy are looking for a place to rent and are hoping to tap the brain of Paul, the Aussie surfer I met the other day who knows the surf scene here well. Bill wants easy access to multiple surfing locations and that means living somewhere in the Kuta area probably so you can access, Changgu, Kuta, Ulu Watu, Padang Padang.
Bill’s first surf today didn’t go as well as he had expected. After 3 waves his broke his board in 2. He took it back as it was defective and got most of his money back.
Paul will sort him out with one of his boards hopefully, made in Byron Bay Australia.
My day started today with a session at Global Exteme and things were moving along until their power went off all of a sudden. They got things back up again and I carried on.
Yumi was planning to come over to teach me Indonesian and sms’d me ( text messaged ) at Global. Susy showed me how to use ‘predictive text’,the function where the machine guesses what word you’re typing and fills it in. I’ve always done text messages ( the last 2 months ) by typing the actual letters into the phone but this way is much quicker, I can punch out a sentence in no time.
I met up with Yumi and after a couple Bill sms’d me asking for help renting a motorbike. He and Susy took a taxi out from Kuta to our place. We had a good time getting to know each other with the intricasies of language with Yumi straightening us out on the local lingo.
Bill and I jumped on my bike and visited the place on Jalan Legian where I rented my bike. The place was open, with the radio on, keys hanging up etc. but no staff. We waited about 10 minutes and took off. We visited another place and they had to call around for a bike so we took off again. Finally rented one from a place closer to Kuta on Jalan Legian and fitted it with a surfbaord rack. Bill looks way cool now…motorbike, surfboard rake cute girl on the back, I’m jealous.
I showed them the way downtown on Jl.Legian and we parted at Internet Outpost. We’ll be meeting again in a couple of hours.
Moving to Bali for longer than a week entails some of the same logistical stuff that Sean and I went through. I hope I am able to be of assistance and help the process.

Having a local connection is priceless. Even if you don’t know the answer, you know where to look to find it.
Nick has been an incredible help. Speeding up processes that could have taken forever. He is also, for those of you who haven’t met him, a really nice and fun guy. Susi and I have already rented a house and I have gotten a great surfboard at a great price, all in 2 days.
Thanks Nick!
What a tremendous asset you are, Nick, to those needing help and good company.

Having already gone through guesthouses and looking for a place and all that, you’ll be great. I know if I were moving there I’d feel pretty lucky if you were helping me learn the ropes. Keep on keepin on, mate - learning the culture and meeting more and more people, rock on!
