Jay: I have a question. Supposing I like diving and come out to Ambon. Am I going to be expected to do 14 miles jungle hikes?
Mike: Well if you just come down for diving its pretty straightforward, you come down from your bungalow and you get into the boat and we're diving for an hour, an hour and a half. We can either bring a lunch with us and park it on some deserted beach and hang out. We can combine can combine diving with hiking. We can take you on a little 'medicine plant hike' with the locals, to see how they process plants outs of the jungle for food and medicine. We can show you how they process nutmeg and cloves. We have 100 years old clove and nutmeg tress growing right there on the beach, near our place. So to answer your question, its can be long hikes in the jungle if you want that, or it can be a 15-20 minute little jaunt. We're accommodating for all fitness levels.
Baliblog: Is there anything else about your operation that is unique? What about you guy's general attitude.
Mike: Well one of the things that is special is we have conch shell orchestra, on Ambon island. They are about 10 miles away from where we are setting up our dive operation. We're going to have the conch shell orchestra come over and play in our village in the evenings, on a pretty regular basis. We may even have them at the airport with large parties that show up on the plane. We're trying to find a wide variety of non-diving activities for people to do. The music and the3 dance in Ambon is legendary and we are definitely going to be employing a lot of local musicians to come and jam for our guests. The local people there have seen western travelers so rarely that it's still kind of an experimental place. Right now the locals are really curious about westerners, they are extremely warm towards them and it's a really nice vibe out there.
