Aceh has a version of the strict Muslim sharia law. This law requires women to dress in a modest way and not take part in activities deemed improper. Local transvestites, known here in Bali as ‘benchongs’ are taking no notice and come out at 11pm, looking for love in all the wrong places.
Sounds like Seminyak to me. Yesterday I was sipping a coffee at Cafe Seminyak when a motorbike came out of the entrance into the main street. The driver looked initially like an attractive young lady, but her passenger was slightly stocky.
Flipping their heads around and swishing their flowing hair, I saw they were both benchongs. The driver could get away with it for maybe 20 seconds, but the other person had a head like a rottweiler. If I go fro an early morning walk, I frequently get offers of friendship from passing benchongs on motorbikes, still out from the night before. I think they’re pretty harmless and hope they work it out in Aceh.

Hi Laurs,
From your reference to a Transperth bus, I take it that you are from Perth. I don’t know if you are old enough to remember Feathers Restaurant in Northbridge [managed by Holly Wood, now with the Sunday Times], Carnaby’s Nightclub in Murray Street, or Charlotte’s Theatre Restaurant at the back of the Concert Hall. All great gay run places and lots of fun for people of all sexual persuasions.
Last time in bali I had an indepth conversation with a Benchong mostly based on how i manage to grow my nails so long! These people take the hard path in life –being ridiculed and castigated by so many others. It has just got to be sometinng the cannot help doing otherwise surely they would opt for the easier pathway.
I know a benchong here in Aus who is just hanging out for the day that he can have the surgery to remove his “bits” and redevelop him into the female he wants to become. He has the long blonde “as in peroxide” hair,no facial hair (has the regular injections for that),and a face like the back of a Transperth bus but a nicer more caring person you could not meet.
There has got to be something in a persons genetic makeup that makes them what they are!
Cheers laurs
