Bamboo Corner: Still a hard place to beat on Poppies I

bamboo_corner042505.jpgI have mentioned it many times before but I will mention it again. Bamboo Corner on Poppies I still hard to beat for value. Located about 50 meters in from Jl. Legian and close to TJs, the warung serves a selection of Indonesian and western food. During the lunch period its fairly busy, during dinner time its packed. Very popular with visitors from Europe, it feels likes a free-coupon for Bamboo Corner must get put in every Dutch retirement check.

House specialties include satay which is good and chunky and nasi goreng super (chicken, shrimp, and egg) for 6,500rp. That is about 80 cents for a good belly full. To my knowledge nobody has ever died at Bamboo Corner and I can recommend it to people on a budget. The menu also features chicken and fish dishes as well as curry.

Today I had a pork satay which came with rice, a couple of pineapple lassis and a Kopi Bali for 21,000rp. Today I sat next to travelers from Japan, Germany and France. Bamboo Corner has captured the international appeal in a budget kind of way.

G’Day Nick,

Agreed Nick. BC is a great place to eat and sheer magic for budget travellers. Although there are several more warungs of the ilk along PL1, BC kicks ass all the time!.

My only complaint about BC is when you sit outside, if there is a bank up of traffic in the lane, then you cop the fumes. But I guess you get that anywhere you go in Kuta!.

Yeah it is great value, however I just can’t sit inside as it is far too hot and with only 4 tables outside tables are at a premium

I would give the steak a miss, my son had a hard time cutting it, but as is always the way you get what you pay for and all other dishes are great value.

Bamboo Corner is where all the tightasses go to eat.

Stavros,

No arguments about that.

Is it difficult to find nice warung’s in Tuban area?! I’ll be travelling to Bali at the end of the month (first time), and am on a budget, and from my research on the web restaurants (like we know it in Europe) are way over my budget!
Excellent site by the way, extremely helpful!

Godinho,

The tourist part of Tuban is called Jl. Kartika Plaza. A bit spendy but not outrageous for food.

THe local part is Jl. Raya Tuban, good Chinese food.

Nick,

Thanks, for the info! Funny thing though, I can find Jl. Raya Tuban, but not Kartika Plaza on the map. Could it also be named Jl. Dewl Sartika?!
