Balinese lady & kids: Wanasari Kelod Bali

Not far from the lady in the sarong (only about 30 meters) was a small road side warung selling drinks and traditional Balinese snacks. Two young girls were tucking into a bowl of lontong, the compacted rice, that can be cut into slices and served cold, plus peanut sauce and green beans. The owner told me one of the girls was her daughter, the other, the daughter of the man working in the field in front of us. In a Balinese village everyone is related and close by.

I’m always interested to see what Indonesian kids like. When I was 6 or 7 I liked sweet things, plus the usual, sausage, fish & chips etc. Indonesian kids get started on rice an veg early. Jevon is into vegetable bubur (rice porridge) and likes it. After the usual questions about myself (nationality, martial status, wife’s nationality, children ) I showed them a photo of Jevon and also their own photo. My Coke cost 2,000rp and they waved as I departed.
