Balinese culture is colorful and alive in Kuta Bali

kids082805.jpgOne thing about living in is the never-ending schedule of ceremonies that happen. Just this evening I was on Gang Ronta in between Poppies I & II went the father of these 2 kids stopped. I don't know where they were going but no doubt they are part of some traditional dance performance. Balinese dancing is performed at many hotels and restaurants and is not just for money. The participants actually perform at local temple and earn a few rupiah at commercial events. I remember back in 1993 watching a Balinese dancer in a restaurant in Ubud and the German guy sitting next to us was going "Oh my God it is so terrible, they take this and do it for the tourists." Actually its not terrible at all, it gives them another place to practice their traditional arts.

Here's a list of some of the temple ceremonies in Bali. If you are planning to stop by and observe be sure to bring a sarong and a sash. These can be bought at any street vendor in Kuta for 25,000rp total.
