Bali weather: A little wet and steamy right now

Weather in Bali is steamy right now, with highs of 89f (32C) and scattered thunder storms. Not that I am feeling any of that right now, I’m shivering away in Portland Oregon.

Temperatures here are down to almost freezing at night and my friend Sean’s house is affectionately called ‘The Meat Locker’. So far I have avoided getting sick this time and will keep on taking vitamin C and eating healthy.

Visitors to Bali over the next few months should expect morning and evening showers with sunny days being the norm. In the higher elevations you can expect more clouds and rain, even during the dry season. Downpours can be sudden, just like someone turning on the shower, so if you are out walking and feel the wind suddenly pick up after a darkening of the sky, a downpour isn’t far away.

A surfer friend of mine told me he likes surfing when its raining as there are less people in the water. The Balinese think the Gods a peeing on them and leave the water. Anytime you rent a house and the wet season starts you know it will be a true test of the roof. My old house used to get leaks on the ground floor ceiling in a 2 storey house! The higher humidity at this time of year means things rot twice as quick. Make sure you take clothes out of the closet and give them an airing. If shoes, jackets, cushions, helmets etc. get wet, place them in direct sunlight for a few hours in the middle of the day. Failure to do so will mean a nasty green fungus on your gear. Last year my running shoes dissintegrated, I could see all the way through them.

Hi there Barrie,

Just wondering where do you live at the moment? I’m in Yogyakarta and have been here for 2 weeks. Love the city and I don’t wanna go back to my hometown, hehehe…

Hello Barrie,

Ah..too bad, otherwise we could meet up for a cup of coffee, hehe… Well, I’m moving around from friends to another…from Janti, to Novotel, then Jambidan village and now at a friend’s house in Godean :-) I once lived here for 2 years as I was studying at Sanata Dharma University and since then I love the city for the culture, the atmosphere, the people, the food, hehe :-D It keeps me going back here when I have a chance, planning to celebrate New year in Yogya :-)
