Bali to Berlin: Two very different places

Barrie is doing an excellent job on Baliblog and we’re all enjoying his intelligent and interesting stories and posts.Hell, maybe they should hire Barrie instead of me!

Here in Berlin we are experiencing the European summer…33C one day, 20C the next. I attended a Fan Fest, where football and gather in a public square to watch games in front of a huge screen. Every German city has a Fan Fest and
I got to see Ukraine vs. Spain in Leipzig. Man it was hotter than Kuta Beach down there! Today in Berlin I’m wearing jean and a sweater.

For people who have moved to Bali and enjoy the positives of life there, it can get to the point where you can’t ever imagine leaving. Berlin offers advantages that Bali does not. There is no beach or temples, but there are great cafe’s, bars, fantastic beer, people are very nice, everything is on time, etc. etc. Berlin is an under rated city I reckon. Spending a summer here, with time to enjoy the sights, food and nightlife would be a pleasure. Berlin is very safe, and does not have the ‘cop scene’ like many places in the US.

A change is as good as a rest and Bali to Berlin is a great change. I’m helping to take photos for this World Cup 2006 site.

Glad you’re enjoying Berlin. And for such an event as the World Cup, it must be quite vibrant!

Comparing places in the world is both an interesting and unproductive exercise. I say that because each and every area has its plusses and minuses. A lot depends on what we like, need, are drawn to and what ultimately, helps us be the people we are.

Barrie’s posts have been really good. It’s nice to have a change. But I won’t compare you and he – an interesting but unproductive exercise!
