Bali Stupid

Our new site is called BaliBlog.com. I think this is a nice short name that may not immediately be an obvious description of what we’re doing but is easy to remember. Putra, who works in Taman Sari ( breakfast joint ), told us ‘belog’ means stupid. He jokingly called the site BaliBelog…..BaliStupid. We hope to make sure this is not what we’re known for.

Hey boys. Thanks for the Malaria info. No way I am touching larium… but I am checking into an altenative as I may head to the surf spot in Lombok that Nick spoke of earlier. (In the end I will most likely just roll the dice..).

Looking forward to sucking back a few cold ones with you boys… keep me posted. I will be cruising in there on a Saturday night and heading right for a watering hole t beat the heat.. by the sounds of things it is a tad warm in those parts…

Oh yeah… Goodluck with solving that “mystery”… I am hoping “mysteries” are common over there.

Hi Wendell,

Glad our info was useful. Regarding malaria we hear all kinds of things. Some expats say malaria is on the rise while my freind Putu said she htought not too many people get malaria here. I’ve heard 10 years ago that Desert Point was a hotspot and still here it. Jason said when you’re out there you don’t even feel like there’s many mosquitos, but if you are unlucky you could get the big M.

I’ve been to Nias which is a real hotspot and was fine.

We look forward to downing a few Bintangs with you too. We’ll probalby be in Amed on the east coast next weekend but will be back in Kuta by Sunday night. There are affordable guest ohuses along Poppies Lane I & II. When you land you can change money after immigration and buy a voucher for a taxi ( 25,000rp to Kuta ). Just come out and head to the right about 10 meters.

There’s a local warung ( restaurant ) that’s close to us that you’d probably enjoy. Its called Warung 96. Was there last night and it was busy with travellers, cheap prices too. Just ask a local where it is.

You can leave a message for us at the local internet cafe we use, Internet Outpost ( 763392 ), they know us, or e-mail.

Bali’s a blast, you’ll love it here.

Paul,

Yes - we laugh about it all the time as well. It is a great icebreaker with the locals, not that we needed it.

As much as you are freezing, we are sweating. It’s hot, bloody hot mate.

BTW - great blog….thanks for linking to it.

sure!!

and i hear what you mean about being hot and having to work. when i was in hawaii for a month, a lot of the time was spent helping my brother plan his wedding. so just being in a fun place doesn’t always mean its fun and games the whole time. (just maybe most of the time?! haha!)

btw, i have been so busy i know i am long overdue for my next “asia journal” article. maybe i’ll write one on hawaii too since i just came back. hmmm…
