The Bali police are conducting drug raids on bars and nightclubs under the orders of Indonesia's top cop General Sutanto. Raids are also happening in Jakarta. From what I have from Jakarta, if you are planning a party night the staff at hip locations will often have some knowledge if a place is going to be raided. I don't know if that is true in Bali, as I don't go to nightclubs much.
The latest Bali raid the GWK cultural park netted Australian model Michelle Leslie, 24. She was apparently with friends when the cops swooped and found a couple of 'happys' in her bag. Pretty silly to mess with drugs after all the press coverage concerning Schapelle, the Bali Nine and the latest guy from Australia who is inside after hashish was found. I think the casual way drug sellers offer their wares, as if everything is cool, often inside the nightclub, right in front of the bar, can lead people to act like they are at home. That's not the case and some people are going to get caught out.
I like the quote from The Age newspaper, "Legal experts said she could escape a court trial if she secures a top lawyer." Read between the lines on that one, if you will. Mummy and daddy will no doubt be emptying their savings account in a hurry.

As I recall, back about 6 years years ago in Ubud, there was a foreign girl who with her Indo boyfriend was managing the Funky Monkey. The police found a single hit of Ecstasy outside the club in the parking area. She was arrested and held in Kerobokan for more than 18 months before her family came up with the cash to get her out. The boyfriend was left to rot. The rumour in Ubud was that they had been set up by “Intel”. You often see these “Intel” thugs sitting alone in upscale restaurants/clubs in Ubud. They are poorly dressed and sit for hours with a bottle of Aqua on the table.
Hi guys, oh and dolls if you are reading,
Well i find it just fucking amazing how heavy the penalties are for some soft drug possession penalties. It pisses me off big time and really puts me off Indonesia you know that. I mean isnt it just crazy those fucking half wits undercover coppers spent weeks spying on that poor Australian chap who they found with a tiny piece of dope. You would have thought with the time and effort that was spent with the surveilance they were expecting to find kilos and kilos of hash, but what did they find…. well about a gtramme and a half…..pea brainers just pure bloody pea brainers. Now the poor chap who was doing no harm and who probably just liked a puff in the privacey of his home is rotting in some filthy fucking jaol while there are probably rapists and killers on the loose. Just a pity aint it they dont put more time into finding the terrorists out there who are no doubt planning more atrocities. That shit bag scum bag Bakir will be out in a couple of months…..just unbelievable bloody unbelievable. Sorry if my language offends but it just makes my blood boil how the iNDOS HANDLE RUNNING THEIR COUNTRY WHICH COULD OFFER SO MUCH. Well just let them carry on till they destroy everything and nobody wants to come to BALI. I mean god help those poor pissed up youngsters who have had too much pop and are set up by some sleaze bag grass to accept some illegal drugs and end up in the clink. When i land on Bali i will always have my wits about me and trust bloody no one unless i know them. Some hal wit pea brainer corrupt scum bag will not turn me over. Beware folks and be vigilante.
G’day in the words of Barrie

G’day Mark,
I sure wish you’d use paragraphs mate! (He, he..!)
When the hell are you coming over to Bali?????????
This Michelle is a lot more tasty than Corby. I’m sure the male inmates at Kerobokan must be licking their lips with anticipation…
Indcoup, you are a disgustingly sick individual. How dare you make such an inappropriate comment about Michelle. She is someones daughter, she is young and frightened and we are all frightened for her. The last thing anyone who cares about her wellbeing needs to read is horrible comments like yours. To whoever mediates this website, do you really need to leave fucking bullshit comments on here like this one?
Lauren,
Indcoup represents a part of society just like you. If his comments are stupid people will see that, if they contain a grain of truth they will see that too.
If Michelle was from Indonesia, Indcoup’s comments might not be far from the truth sadly, and ‘visitation rights’ mean, rights for those in charge.
Nick,
Your comments are granted. It is just very hard to read a comment like that when it is about one of my friends. He is indeed allowed the right to his own opinion and the right to state it and I apologise for attacking anyone.
Lauren

Dear Sir
I may be quoting you inaccurately but I am taking as my source the Sydney Morning Herald,
online edition Aug. 23, 2005.
I refer to your quote: “But I do think they are very tough on drugs,” “They are very committed to stopping the drug trade.”
If this is the case why on many streets you walk down in Bali are you regularly offered drugs by people and always outside of
the many nightclubs you are offered drugs. For the visitor this gives the impression that drugs are very available.
The police do not prevent these people from offering drugs, in fact appear to often work in collusion with them.
Let us all remember that Indonesia is one of the most corrupt countries in the world.
The few that are caught up in the legal system are merely pawns that are used to feather the nests of various bureaucrats.
You are aware of how corrupt the police are there? In the Stadium nightclub in Jakarta the whole array of drugs is openly on offer,
perhaps your staff in Jakarta can verify this. Let us see the Indonesian position as one of complete hypocrisy. Tourists are being
targeted because money can more easily be extracted from them. In addition the policy of their judiciary/legislature
regarding marijuana use is a nonsense when you consider how many tens of thousands die in Indonesia each year from tobacco use.
Yours sincerely,
Jonathan Bevan LL.B DBM
Jonathan,
I stand and applaud you my friend. Excellent.
If u want to go to some countries, try to adapt with its culture. Don`t take ur individualism and egoism to other country. It will corrupt the other.
It is beneficial to a culture of corruption to reform it; and that is what their democratically elected President has pledged (so far without much success) to do. Many Indonesians are sick of the corruption in their own country, it bleeds a country dry eventually. It puts off visitors too. As you can see from the letter it was to an Australian politician so I think you missed the point. I won’t be writing to an Indonesian politician pointing out the obvious.
high profile people should be role models they should consider themselves lucky that they dont have to work and yet make so much more money than most people instead of being thankful to the society that is their servent and feeds them they become like trafficaters and promote drug taking by their celiberity status so double the penality to them
I was in BAli in 2000 and the first thing I was offered in Kuta was a bag of grass. I was asked if I wanted drugs about 4 times in one week. And the final one a guy tried to sell me a big block of hash probably about one once he was asking for 20 bucks for it and he just wouldn’t fuck off and 5 minutes later a cop car cruised passed and stared at me . Luckily I said no or I may still be in prison there. Conning Australians in BAli has become quite lucrative. And to think that they had the cheek to fine me for making an alleged illegal turn and I had to pay off the traffic cop.And this is in a province that really has very little road rules, driving there was like giving way to the biggest car. Not to mention continouse pestering by pimps and hookers asking 150,000 rupia for sex.
A couple of extasy tablets is nothing . A petty she never jsut swallowed the two of them. Over here I have heard of people getting off with verbal warnings for that small amount of E. You just get sent to like counselling. I agree it is corrupt and to think that the bombers are treated like celebrities sickens me. I left with good memories of BAli all the same, but I mean c’mon these guys are taking the piss I mean who do they think they are ,like did we blow up too many of there fishing boats or something .
Anyways that’s my Bali experiance but I must say that many were very friendly and were genuinly nice to me and I feel sorry for them as the others are ruining there good reputation.
She should of gone to Gili Trawangan…Magic mushroom cafes and any drug you want delivered straight to your door. AAAhhhh fond memories of that lovely island.
You’ve got it all wrong - you’re a long way from Kansas, Dorithy - you’ll take the weather, ingnore the poverty in your face and real despeation of a third world country,, so go txt your pal with the latest on Neighbours soaps, and go home with a cheap tattoo and a bag of sweat shop priced T- shirts…..you’re not in Melbourne now kiddies - it’s corrupt (oh my god like you never knew!!) to the core - you wear it or just don’t come here..and a couple of jail’d idiots is the warning well needed to save your asses from a similair fate..now go get yourselves another (dozen) Bintang and quit complaining….

G’Day Nick,
I realise there are many westerners incarcerated and rotting away in hell-holes courtesy of the Indo Govt, BUT, why is it that when an Australian gets busted then it makes the news big-time.
AND, before all of you knockers out there get on your high-horses with your abuse about Australians, forget it.
To continue, it seems to me that the Indo police are targeting Australians.
Yeah, you are right there Nick about mummy and daddy coming to the rescue.
