One of the 3 judges who sentenced Bali Nine member Myuran Sukumaran to death, didn’t want to. According to the Courier Mail, Judge Suryowati lobbied the other 2 judges behind closed doors for Sukumaran’s life to be spared.
She told reporters she was upset at the thought of a young man losing his life and the sight of his relatives in court made her quite emotional. Sukumaran himself didn’t help his case one bit by refusing to speak. Judge Suryowati said “Someone’s death is decided by God, not human beings, but I can’t avoid it, this is the duty.”
