Bali Nine drug appeal fails

A constitutional appeal against the death penalty by 3 members of the Bali Nine has failed. The 3, Andrew Chan, Scott Rush and Myuran Sukumaran hoped that Indonesia’s ‘right to life’ law might invalidate their death sentence.

Here in Indonesia courts love to give the maximum sentence for drug offenses unless the defendant can come up with some ‘green’ (and I don’t mean ‘wacky backy’). In my opinion it would be extremely damaging for Indonesia to execute members of the Bali Nine, given their age and number. In all likelihood a deal will be reached involving a life term / prisoner exchange. The only way a Bali Nine member is going to get out early, is to get mum and dad to sell the Ute dealership and hire Hotman.

Here’s more from the BBC.
