According to a German website, Bali has a high incidence of Japanese encephalitis. Researchers found an incidence of 8.2 per 100,000 children. What I know about the disease is it basically destroys your brain over time. Japanese encephalitis is a mosquito borne disease.

Malaria and dengue occur in Bali, though not in epidemic proportions. The CDC website says that tourists / travelers are not in any great danger from Japanese encephalitis, so first timers to Bali need not stress.
