The Schapelle Corby case has fired up national pride in Australia with some people stating they will never set foot in Bali again if Schapelle is found guilty. These sentiments are easy to understand, Schapelle is a sweet looking woman, who many can relate to and whom many feel has been wrongly accused. For some people its an open and shut case, she was the unwitting carrier of drugs, the charges are wrong and Indonesia is barbaric.
Some Australian travel agents have been kicking up a stink about not selling trips to Bali if she is found guilty. A recent article in e-Travel Blackboard talks to Mr. Ian Norris, managing director of San Michele Travel in Australia. He is obviously a clued in guy and does not buy into this emotional nonsense. Mr. Norris points out that people with no direct access to the evidence or even the accused are setting themselves up as judge, jury and sentencing committee.
As Mr. Norris points out, Bali is Australias number 1 tourist destination and those friendships go back a long way. They are certainly not going to extinguished by a misunderstood trial.

There seems to be a consistent breakdown in communications between the staff and the kitchen help. Is it that difficult to get an order correct ?
But if the Balinese authorities decide to make an example of Corby, tourists WILL be intimidated. They won’t want to follow in Corby’s footsteps by travelling to a country where marijuana equals life imprisonment and even possibly death, especially when they are forced to land in an airport where drugs MIGHT be planted in their luggage.
Stephanie,
If any of the Media hype tells you anything remotely correct, it’s insinuations are that Aust baggage handlers put it in her bags!?
So really we should be boycotting Aust!?
Or atleast more so worried about travelling in/around Aust or from Aust to any other country, it really is not Bali at all we should be angry at, those laws have ALWAYS been there, it’s not as though it is a new Law that Drugs in Indonesia & most other Asian countries = Death Penalty, so to anyone who did not know that, they must be blind & illiterate, coz the posters are everywhere, we even get info on this when we receive passports, tickets to travel etc….
I don’t think they’d be making an example, simply a lady arrived with 4kgs of Gunja in her bag, that’s what they are looking at plain & simple!
well i disagree, lots of people will go back to Bali but i am sure lots wont as well. I for one wont go back if they convict shapelle. They want our money over there, but will put an innocent girl in jail for the rest of her life. BOYCOTT BALI EVERYONE
Carls,
I have spoken to lot’s of people & I would have to say there’s a pretty evn keel from the various persons on saying guilty & innocent. So those thinking she is Innocent wont go back (until the flights get really cheap) then those that perhaps think she is guilty will return (hoping for cheaper flights) Then people like myself whom really has no idea & cannot believe anything in the Media & have no idea about the girl, but I have close Balinese friends, family/kids etc….I will go back!!!
I just thought I would let you know after Corby Case in Indonesia my friends and I have no intentions of ever going back to Bali again
Your economy is fueled by tourism and as of today you have lost what little respect we had left for you
You let terrorist bombers that kill us go with little or no punishment and treat them as heros
We provide you aid in the millions of dollars and we provide a backbone for your economy
And how do you repair us?
I will no longer support your economy
Regards
Disgusted Australian Citizen
I have never been to Indonesia and certainly will never go there now. The trial was a farce as they had no intentions of collecting all the evidence, ie: finger prints and saying that as the custom agents word was more acceptable than the victims. They had her, Schapelle Corby convicted the day they arrested her. The trial was their way of showing the world that they were doing the right thing. Indonesia should be off limits now to all who believe in true justice. They take our money one or another, either in aid or by charging innocent people.
I have given my last donation to help others now as i would never know where it was going and I certainly don’t want it going over there.
Seeing that they have convicted an Australian for 20 years and after loosing so many Australian’s in the Bali bombings for them to get so little and for one of ours get so much. How can they justify this? She is not guilty of this crime but they were guilty of the bombing and were pleased to show that.
LETS ALL BAND TOGETHER AND BOYCOTT AND SHOW OUR SUPPORT TO HER AND HER FAMILY. MANY OF US HAVE NOT RETURNED AFTER THE BOMBING AND NOW THIS LETS HOPE IT IS MANY MORE THAT DON’T RETURN.
The judges you should be ashamed of yourselves

I said it before and I’ll say it again,
Aussies are a mercinary tight arsed lot and will continue to go for holidays wherever they get the best deal. If that best deal is offered in Bali then to Bali they will continue to go to, Shapelle in the can or not!
Regardless of what anyone says, the Indonesian legal system is nothing more than a ‘Kangaroo’ court (please excuse the pun!) the chief judge was ‘on-the-record’ stating that he has never acquitted a drugs case. What happened to judging each case on it’s own merit, the Balinese legal system appear to believe that convictions are a form of performance indicator!
I traveled to Indo several years ago and was moved by the kindness, friendliness and generosity of the Balinese people. I’m going to miss them and the great beaches as I won’t be traveling to Indo again… or buying anything manufactured in Indo. The contrast between the friendly nature of the people and the legal and governing systems they live and work under is somewhat ironic.
What I am thankful for is the fact that my surfboard cover didn’t contain any surprises when I picked it of the conveyor on my last trip.
My heart goes out to the beautiful Indonesian people who will be forced into poverty and suffering thanks to the Indonesian governments naivety.
Made… I’ll miss you mate!
I can’t wait to go back to Bali. At least I will get away from the pack of jingoistic wankers who are posting on all these forums calling for a Bali boycott.
Firstly, How can anyone be so sure of her innocence if they were not at the trial? You idiots are relying on 30 second sound bites delivered on the evening news by a totally irresponsible Australian media. Most of these sound bites were of Schapelle in tears declaring her innocence. Did the Australian media show any of the prosecutor’s case at all?
It is like channel nine were acting as a defence lawyer.
Secondly, It isn’t the Indonesian people’s fault Corby was convicted. Why would you punish a someone in the tourism industry because you believed that the Indonesian judges got it wrong.
Thirdly, What has the Bali Bombing got to do with Corby.
Fourthly: she can appeal, and believe me I hope she does so justice can take it’s course iether way.
Fifthly: At least her trial was open to the public and she had a choice of her legal team(unlike Australian David Hicks). Who is standing up for him?
And Finally to those fucksticks who say we should stop aid to Indonesia because of Corby, go to an Indonesian hospital stacked full of medical aid provided by Australia, and take the medicines back. Just tell those people who need our help that you can die because I’m a pig-headed Australian moron who believes everything I have seen on A Current Affair.
Thanks for the information about San Michele Travel I know now not to use them ever again as our companies corporate travel agent. We were considering Bali for our annual conference (300 people) however common sense has prevailed as we cannot risk our valued employees to terrorism and an archaic so-called justice system. New Zealand here we come.
So Shaeppele has been foundy guilty its sad. now because of some narrowminded morons i should not travel to bali. i was there in 1976 when seririt was hit by an earthquake and will be returning next year for the 30th anniversary. actually i am going to bali next month for my holidays, why?? Because the island will be free of the yobbos and cockeads i dread. People suffer and all you want to do is take the food out of peoples mouth because you disagree with a verdict. To the narrowmind ones do you do drugs also or booze
People of Australia and everywhere else who support her - I do believe the Judges made the right decision based on the evidence presented to them. So don’t get angry at the Judges. The massive injustice is that the evidence was was a complete and utter disgusting crock of shit. There was conveniently no video evidence, the customs officers who speak little english claim she said “…I have some…..” what a load of crap. almost all of her defence was dismissed, including the australian couple who claimed they found drugs in their bag on a holiday to bali, John Ford’s statement, the list goes on. I hope the customs officers responsible for her injustice get what they deserve. Karma.
How sad. 20 years of her life gone for what? So much for so little.
I regret my donations to your pitiful and unjust country.
To I’m going Back to Bali,
I am sorry, but you must be a complete idiot yourself. How can you NOT question her guilt knowing that marijuana is so much cheaper in Bali compared to Australia? Who in their clear mind would risk their life trying to smuggle drugs into a country when they are going to LOSE more than half of their money? FYI, most drugs are smuggled FROM Indonesia to Australia.

Your country will pay..you will suffer..dont think this will have no effect !! wrong i have spoken to a group of travel agents ( 5 ) they will not be selling bali travel ever again !!
Indonesia out of Australia we will WAR with you !!
Your bombs killed Australians we will return your antics !! Your jails hold our own for no reason !!
Indonesians will live a hard life here in our Contry ..Freedom to indonesia NO MORE !!
I suggest locking up Indonesians for stealing bikes, shoplifting, stealing candy, …
Absurd?
I rest my case.
I’m with Australia on this one. Indonesia is just too full of it. Boycot this land, everyone!
a disgusted person from western Europe
Along with Schapael’s Life sentance , comes a Life sentance for the Tourist Industry in Bali. May every Aussie who has a Heart boycott this country , as they have already taken too many of our people with the Bali bombing .
Lets BOYCOTT EVERYTHING INDONESIAN. May they hurt like Schapeal is
Pull your head in Bali to Suffer. There has been some extremely stupid stuff said about the decision but claiming Australia is at war with indonesia is easily the dumbest thing I have ever read.
I am not sure whether Schapelle is innocent or guilty for one very simple reason. I wasn’t at the trial. People who claim she is innocent do so from a position of ignorance.
If you want to make an informed decision, learn Bahasa Indonesia and watch a complete video of the court process.
I just get so pissed off at people who want to take their frustrations out on an entire country because they get scraps of information on a jingoistic news bulletin, and jump to the conclusion that Corby is innocent.
Oh and by the way their is a strong market for Ausatralian weed in Bali. Not that this proves Corby’s guilt.
Sampai Jumpa orang dari Indonesia. Saya akan kembali tahun depan.
I live in a popular tourist spot in the US. If it were the case that there was a chance that people would get this kind of treatment coming here, I wouldn’t want tourists coming even though my livlihood would suffer. I am a nice person who helps out stranded people and I volunteer all over the place. I do not take drugs nor would I ever transfer them. I will not be going to Indonesia. Indonesia did not really punish “the Bali bombers” and I think that 20 years over a bag of marijuana is messed up. She plead innocent and therefore could not be repentant. The bottom line is thatt hey have a low opinion of life over there.
It seems that if there was evidence proving Schapelle as guilty then Indonesia would have made a huge issue of it and made sure the media knew. You needn’t learn the language to understand everything. The Indonesians are barbaric but shrewd. They would get anything out that showed her guilty or cast a shadow of a doubt on her.
I don’t think that people are being emotional. 20 years is a long time. Schapelle will be past child bearing age when she goes home. How will they treat her in their prison? How scrambled will her brain be as she recreates pieces to put together of her life? Every time you go to that country you are taking your life into your own hands. What if the next person accused if threatened to keep silent and the media stays out?
The dollar will probably win. It always does. In two days Schapelle will be yesterday’s news. People want vaccations cheaply and if tourism is hurt they will simply make rock-bottom trips available and win afterall. I’d love to see Australian airlines and airlines all over the world make cameras be installed in their baggage check areas in response to this or maybe just have people carry everything on.

Bottom line is Indonesias will suffer because of their judicial system.
Maybe Indonesians should rally and express their concerns rather than cheer, after all without our tourism they are nothing other than a third world island.
To the individuals that belive that things will go back to normal WAKE UP AND SMELL THE BINTANG!!
Australians have gone from loving the place to loating it.
We gave 1 billion in aid for the tsunami, now ask yourself do you truly belive they would do the same for us.
I will much rather spend more money next time and travel to a more desirable destination than see that hole again.
Never been there and will never go there. Truth is, these people are not long out of the trees and they may be sweet and all that but as for running a fair judicial system and non-corrupt police force they have no idea. They are intellectually on a par with first rate morons like Saddam Hussein.
Why don’t you lock up balinese for killing innocent lives, stealing kidneys and so forth?.I was considering going back to Bali next year but I will instead be looking at somewhere else like Cairns or Fiji for next years holidays.
“emotional nonsense”
when translated means dont let saving a persons life get in the away of making some $$$
The farked up judge said in his verdict that the reason he convicted Corby was that “Drugs hurt the Balinese people”
Well maybe he can figure out what else he can do to help his people after the money drys up. I understand that they are poor people but I think it’s goddamn time that these government people who claim to be so worried about their population start actually helping themselves. I give to my regular charity but if I ever find out that the charity is going to Indonesia I’ll pull the plug on my donations.
I will NEVER go to Bali. The point about going there once the flight costs drop. Not at all. If I don’t have the $1k to fly to Bali I’ll spend $150, pack up my car and go fishing out in Sorrento or something.
500 convictions out of 500 trials. Yeah, I can see that was a fair trial.
ONE FACT THAT HAS NOT BEEN DISCUSSED????
WHY WOULD Miss Corby ever have identified her boogie- board bag when she was asked by guards-as to whose bag it was??
(if she was aware of the fact that there was a banned substance in it???)
SHE MUST HAVE CLAIMED THE BAG WAS HERS NATURALLY BECAUSE SHE WAS INNOCENT-__RIGHT??
Indonesia IS NOT a-Western-tourist friendly country~~why dont all Westerners avoid going there ??Surely thare are cheaper ,cleaner , more friendly places in Asia??

Naturally all Australians should boycott travel to Bali,
Thats the very best solution—-surely the collective peoples and government of Indonesia
have by their actions and inactions spoken??(FOREIGNERS KEEP AWAY FROM INDONESIA “IS THEIR LOUD AND CLEAR MESSAGE??)
WHAT MORE WILL THE PEOPLE THERE HAVE TO DO TO SHOW THEIR HATRED OF OUTSIDERS??
WHY IN THE NAME OF SANITY EVER GO TO BALI??
SURELY THE TROPICAL BEACHES OF QUEENSLAND AND NORTHERN NEW SOUTH WALES ARE THOUSANDS OF TIMES BEETTER ,AND CLEANER THAN BALI??

To all Australians who pledge never to return to Indonesia, I applaud you. A trip to Indonesia is a trip in support of Muslim terrorism. I have just cancelled my trip. I was to buy a large quantity of raw materials that can only be sourced in Indonesia. I will lose a ton of money, but I will never support that Muslim hell-hole of a country.
The Corby case should awaken in every person the truth that Christian states cannot mix with Muslim states. We in the West are sacrificing our lives and our future on the altar of the politically correct belief that Muslims think as we do. The simple fact is that the Muslims of the world largely hate us. Here in America, there was a march organized to showcase Muslims for Peace. Barely any Muslims showed up. Muslim stupidity and extremism runs deep. I hope the Australians show conviction in never visiting Indonesia. Maybe then we Americans can learn from your strength.
Justin
Stay at home Justin, you are ignorant and a total racist.
Corby’s trial had nothing to do with Muslims. I believe the judge was a Catholic (not that that means anything other than your argument is crap)
Indonesia has a secular government which has been outlined by their pancasila. Kind of like your bill of rights.
You are an embarassment to the people of miami
This whole Corby thing is definetly designed and executed to make people fight each other, anyone who logically observe the whole thing will definetly know that.
The same goes for the Bali bomb, the Australian Embassy bomb, Timor Leste’s ‘liberation’, Iraq’s ‘liberation’, Indonesia’s ‘liberation’, the Guantanomo Bay incident, and so on.
This sort of thing is capable of making some people fight each other due that some people seems to be ignorant on some things and don’t realize that the people who are currently in controls of the Indonesian government are the same ones who are currently in controls of the Australian government and other ‘official’ governments in the world.
These same people also controls mass media around the world, big tourist companies, big airline companies, human rights organizations, ‘terror’ organisation, anti-’terror’ organisation, drug makers, anti-drugs organizations, and so on.
If you follow ‘their’ words, sure you wouldn’t find any connection between all of ‘their’ ‘proxies’. However if you use your own instinct (and not the instinct ‘they’ installed on you), you will know that all of them obeyed the same master and all of them are just mere ‘proxies’.
Personally, I don’t care on whether Corby is innocent or guilty. That’s none of my business or problem.
It’s her business, it’s her problem, it’s also the business and problem the people associated with the whole thing (the baggage handlers, the airports, the airline companies, the courts, and so on).
Ask yourself, if this isn’t your business or problem, why should you be all concern about it?
The problem with the world today might not be people not caring about other people, but instead more about people messing around with things that aren’t their business in the first place.
Now… What about this so called drug problems?
Easy, decriminalize drug making, dealing, and trafficking. That would have eliminate this whole thing. Interestingly, it’s only after the ‘reformation’ that Indonesia’s drug laws become stricter.
Perharps Corby should have made a plea to the former President Suharto to bail her out? Assuming that she don’t want to be proven guilty or serve time, maybe she was threatened to ‘accept’ the verdict guily to save her family back home from suffering (maybe someone back home have a case against her family?), or maybe coming back home and living back home would be a more scarrier experiences (Indonesia is where many people escaped to when they’re in trouble, not the other way around), or maybe she think can make more money by playing the innocent victim, and so on.
It would have been much better to make a plea at Suharto than to make a plea at Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who is only a mere weak stooge like George Walker Bush, John Howard, Tony Blair, and so on.
As for what happened if there’s a boycott on Indonesia and/or Bali.
Australia got lots more to lose than Indonesia should things gone for the worse. Sure both countries are capable of living on their own, especially Indonesia with lots of natural resources and people (Indonesia don’t need tourism or even foreign debts… er, I mean ‘aids’, those things are usually force feed by foreign parties), but Australia would have their routes severly disconnected.
I don’t know on why some Australians gone nutty of the whole boycott thing, either for this one or another or another or another.
Are some of them trying to make people fight each other? Or are some of them aren’t actually Australians and/or have any loyalty toward Australia and therefore are trying to make Australia lose a lot? Or some of them lack common sense? Or are some of them are just plain on too much drugs and/or alcohols?
You people who say we wont come back are in denial. I hate you Nick. I live in Perth and I will NEVER go to bali again!!! When we went there we even found something that seemed like drugs in our hotel room under the carpet. Imagine if we had handed them in instead of just leaving them. We would have been where schapelle is now. I hate Bali now and I think everyone should boycot it!
If Shappelle was not a honkey nobody would give a sh*t. She’s got that guilty look in her eyes anyway.
THE BEST ADVICE ANYONE CAN GIVE AUSSIE TOURISTS
IS JUST AS FOLLOWS:READ THE SIGNS–A MODEST AMOUNT OF A NARCOTIC HAS CAUSED A YOUNG WOMAN TO GET A 20 YEAR SENTENCE.
THE SENIOR JUDGE BY HIS STATEMENTS KEPT ON SAYING “NO DRUG SMUGGLER HAS EVER ESCAPED TO FREEDOM FROM MY COURT”
ACCORDINGLY MS CORBY WAS ALSO JAILED –WE COULD SEE THAT SHE WAS A SITTING DUCK FOR A LONG SENTENCE.
MS CORBY IS RECORDED TO HAVE CLAIMED THE BAG AS HERS ,WHEN THE CUSTOMS GUARDS WERE SEARCHING FOR THE BAGS OWNER.
THUS SHE HAS TO HAVE BEEN UN AWARE OF WHAT WAS NOW(THEN )IN IT~~RIGHT??
SO SHE HAS TO HAVE BEEN INNOCENT OR IN -CREDIBLY NAIEVE OR DENSE–OK?
THIS THEN IS THE SIGN THAT WESTERNERS ARE DESPICED BY THOSE IN AUTHORITY.
BALI DEPENDS TO A LARGE EXTENT ON AUSTRALIAN TOURISTS—FOR A GOOD PERCENTAGE OF ITS INCOME.
TO KEEP GOING THERE WILL BE SUICIDAL ,ONE WOULD THINK?SURELY AS THEY WILL MAKE SCAPE GOATS OF ANY ONE THEY CAN.
JUST AVOID BALI ,WRITE IT OFF THE LIST OF DESTINATIONS.
GO ANY WHERE ELSE…….SURELY THERE ARE PLACES WHERE PEOPLE WILL WELCOME WESTERN TOURISTS.

I really love reading all comments on boycotting Bali here, especially the insulting ones: insult on judges, on people, etc. I suggest to read as many as sources that you can find in the internet (especially the arguments of Tim Lindsey) before you let anger covering your rationality. And after that please think again about this case and your insults to Indonesia as being an unfair country, kangaroo court, fat judges, etc.
If you still don’t let your sense to come up, and threatening, pressuring our souveregnity with those “very civilized” behaviour. I would love to translate your insults to Indonesian language and to spread it to the whole country and write a letter to SBY and higher and supreme court judges, not to mention using all of my connections in organizing anti-Australian and Corby’s movements. And we’ll see then, regarding the appeal carried out by Corby’s lawyer, who’s the winner. I’ll love to see that she’ll get death penalty then. Unjustice? One of you has already had the answer above: emotion is a human nature, and I wouldn’t blame the judges for giving her even the worse sentence. I remind you my fellow Australians that the head of the supreme court, Bagir Manan, a mild judge, has already given a comment that you’re all must restrain yourself from any effort intervening other country’s law. We’re no fool here, we know what happens in your country, we just dont want to make any fuss because we also are afraid of the possibility in waking up some uncontrollable extremists. Once they know about this case and organizing large amount of mass demosntration in front of the court, do you think a better fate of Ms.Corby is heading ahead after the appeal? Don’t you think they care to Hindu’s Balinese people fate because of your boycott? I strongly doubt so.
Frankly, a letter to SBY and judges, my feeling to death penalty and organizing anti-Australia are crap. Don’t take it seriously, I’m not that kind of person even my anger starting to come reading your insulting comments. But I’m deadly serious with the extremist actions once their know about this case and your “civilized” attitudes. You’re not afraid, sure I have no doubt, but will it be a good thing for Schapelle? Don’t blame others if she’ll get death penalty. Remember Australians, Indonesia is full with moderate moslems as Nick ever write about it, including myself who has no religion today, but some extremist fractions are really not easy to deal with. And our thank you for tsunami donation wouldn’t be much of help once they move their interests to Corby’s case. You’ll do no good to her.
Well, I agree not to boycott Bali and I will be there again, actually in this August. Perhaps San Mitchell could provide me with discount
Nop, I have no drugs at all in my bag, dont intend to bring either, live will be easy for me there..
DO NOT EVER GO TO BALI.IT IS A CORRUPT AND VERY POOR PLACE.SUPPORT THE FIJIANS/QUEENSLANDERS/CHINESE AND THE OTHER SAFE PEOPLE AND GO TO THEIR PLACES SUCH AS CHINA/HONGKONG,FIJI,QUEENSLAND OR ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC.BEEN TO BALI ONCE NEVER AGAIN.PEOPLE THERE ARE SO SMUTTY RUDE AND ARE ELIZABETH OR YOUR NEAREST EQUIVALENT(I AM FROM SOUTH AUSTRALIA)BOGANS.FOR MY NEXT HOLIDAY I AM SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING CAIRNS OR FIJI.BALINESE AND BALI CAN GO AND ROT IN HELL FOR ALL I CARE.
Thanks Franz Chong for your opinion on our country and Bali. I appreciate it. ![]()
F.Chong, Are you trying to upgrade your second class citizen in Australia by gaining sympathy? Remember your feature and skin color, you will never be white and certainly not a true caucasian Australian. No matter what you’ll be always a SECOND CLASS CITIZEN in Australia. You are pathetic.
Tom…..anyone of Chinese ancestory has more than enough reason to boycott Indonesia.

And Chan, Franz Chong, have you ever heard some Indonesian chinese guys with name like Edi Tanzil who ran away with 1.3 trillion rupiah his debt to Indonesian gov’t, his brother Hendra Rahardja who died in Australia with trillion rupiah of Indonesian people money in his pocket, and several other Indonesian chinese corruptors ran away to Singapore and Australia brought trillions people money. And I’m sure that you never consult your knowledge to George Adhicondro, another Indonesian chinese who live in Australia and disgust with those fellows’ attitudes. He can tell you that the one who financed that riot in 1998 with many Indonesian chinese victims in Jakarta was Tommy Winata, an Indonesian chinese also!
Well I feel pity about those victims and it’s a dark history of our country. We have many good Indonesian chineses like Kwik Kian Gie, George Adhicondro, Arief Budiman, Marie Pangestu, etc. We cannot blame whole Indonesian chineses for bad things did by few like Edi Tanzil, Hendra Rahardja, etc. As you cannot blame all of Indonesians also for riots did by few in Jakarta. Be open minded.
Chan, There’s always a dark corner in every country mostly due to politics. I don’t know about you but I assume you are not living in Indonesia otherwise you wouldn’t say what you’ve just said. I’m an Indonesian of Chinese origin and I love my country, Indonesia. Most Indonesians of Chinese origin that I know are very happy to live here because they just love it and never want to return to China and there are still millions of them. So I really don’t know which Indonesian/anyone of Chinese origin would boycott Indonesia are you talking about but that is not the point.
Chong, what the Balinese has done to you that allows you to wish them to go and rot in Hell? This is all Corby related and why aren’t you wishing the same for Singaporean for the convicted Australian of Vietnamese origin facing now a death sentence in Singapore?
Is it really safe to go to Hong Kong, China or any other country if you are trying to smuggle drugs? I don’t think so. As far as I know, DRUGS is ILLEGAL everywhere is it not?
Wong, Hong Kong is different. if you’re caught for smuggling drugs (which you definately will), you get 2-4 years in jail. In mainland China, you’ll probably be sent to the firing squad.
I think the Balineses are a group of nice people but it’s true corruption is a problem over there. but i still think boycotting Bali just because of corruptions, the 1998 riots and schapelle corby is not a great idea. anyway, in Bali, most australians just usually enjoy themselves at the beach or in bars haviing beers. There are many tourists from around the world who enjoy spending money in Bali and admiring its culture rather than surfing all day.
Tom, are u a racist? but i do agree with your opinion. if you choose to live in Asia(depending on which asian country you choose), you’ll still be considered second class because of your race. this happens to many immigrants around the world. by the way, i don’t think Chong is trying to upgrade his second class in australia because who wants to live in a country where its people are pompous, racist(not all but most)and be manipulated so easily by the media (i’m talking about schapelle corby’s case).
Nick,
People said the same thing after the Bali Bombing. The simple fact is that regardless of the outcome and the associated media frenzy dies down, Aussies will be back there in droves. Maybe the only ones who will stay away are those with a temptation to some extra goodies with them to the island.
[make note to self: "pack drugs in suitcase for return home - claim someone else put them there - sympathetic Aussies will make sure I get Acquitted" yeah right!]
