Bali bikinis: A spark of light in Nusa Dua

All the talk of censorship and Sharia Law got you down? Fear not, a shaft of light just came to Earth in Nusa Dua. A bikini display at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC) in Nusa Dua, featured some lovely bikinis and even lovelier people inside them.

The event was organized by the MarediModa Association to help promote interaction between players in the beachwear market in Asia. All I’ve got to say is thank you Jack Daniels for posting the pictures. Makes me want to rush out and but a new piece of swim wear.

I saw my first bikini in 1947 when my elder sister made herself one, based on pictures in European magazines. The first time I saw them on the beach was at Weymouth, in 1953. My second wife was wearing them in the mid 1950s [although I didn't meet her until about 1979]. My first wife was wearing them in 1958. This was all happening in England, it would have got them ordered off the beach in Australia in those days by the Australian modesty police, the beach inspectors.

And really, not much has changed. The beachwear designers try to pretend that they have just invented them, but they just keep on recycling the same old designs. And when you think about it, how many variations can you make on a basic theme?

I agree Rex, but isn’t it nice checking out the latest styles.
