Australian PM John 'The Senile Dwarf' Howard criticized Australians who take illegal drugs overseas. The news has been filled with the cases or Schapelle Corby, The Bali Nine and now Michelle Leslie, among others.
Howard said "It's beyond belief that any Australian could be so stupid as to carry drugs into any country in Asia," in an interview with Nine Network television. He then went to say "We have told Australians-young Australians-again and again, don't take drugs out of this country, don't take them into Asian countries because you can’t expect any mercy." "Now we'll keep pushing that message but people have to understand that if they defy that, and they get caught with drugs, they can't expect the government to bail them out," he said. Who can blame his after the media inspired frenzy at the Corby verdict, forcing the government to get involved and then be publicly criticized by a defense lawyer.
Here in Indonesia the Australian Embassy sent mass emails out on Thursday to Australian expats. The email sent to all Australians registered with the Australian Embassy and consulates in Indonesia said its purpose was "to urge you not to take chances: purchasing, carrying or taking any drugs into Indonesia is simply not worth the risk."

Barrie-I missed the story about “the guy in Sumatra being busted with prescription drugs”. Could you share a little more information with us? Were his drugs not in their original containers, do you know just what they were? My spouse & I both take several daily Rxs including narcotic pain ones (it’s what happens when you have lived hard, had too much fun when you’re young). We have made a friend in Tampaksiring with really bad lung disease that we are planning to take him a whole bunch of drugs to help his breathing the next time that we go to Bali. I don’t want to risk spending time with Schapelle, for doing a good deed. We did already make a “friend” at the airport customs office who gave us his card with instructions to ask for him when we come back. We didn’t talk to him about drugs but about importing deer antlers from the US for carving there and then bringing the finished product back to the US.
The guy in Sumatra has thousands of pills, plus methamphtamine.
Make sure you check with the Indo embassy about drugs and get a doctors prescription for everything.
“Senile dwarf” -eh?? Whilst I disagree with many of the PM’s policies -I think I’d construct an argument outside a couple of cheap childish insults….lift your (mental) game mate….
James, Its my website mate, I’ll do what the hell I like thank you.
Senile Dwarf is a good name for him. He seems to shrug stuff off and has actually placed his citizens in more danger becasue of his overseas policies. Well done Howard, Aussies are not just accidental victims anymore, they are prt of the target.
while ’senile dwarf’ is funny johnny h isnt actually short. 5 foot 10. Which is 2 inches taller than the average Olympian.
However, the reason he looks short is that politicians are generally taller than other people. As are successful businesspeople. I read a study once that said for every inch taller you are, you can expect to make $4000 more a year, on average.
This only applies to men, though. Weird.
Just thought that might interest you!
I love your work, Nick. Your site is excellent considering its so hard to get good information on bargain basement accommodation
Mat.
Whoever takes drugs to Bali is stupid, everyone gets pinned for it nowadays, so their really is no point, but if you really need to take drugs into bali, bring a prescription for it, save the trouble of being locked up for 2 days whilst they get a hold of your GP.
G’Day Nick,
’senile dwarf’ - Love your choice of words mate. an apt title indeed.
I was talking with a friend of mine today who is going to JKT soon. She suffers from high blood pressure and now, she is shitting herself because she reckons she will get busted if the Indo ‘pick-on-aussies-time’ dudes, find her medication!.
I told her that as long as she has a current letter from her GP stating the drugs she is taking, then she will be fine.
I can understand her fear after the guy in Sumatra was busted with prescription drugs.
