Australian cricket legends to play in Bali

A team of cricketers made up of some of Australia’s greatest ever players, calling themselves ‘The Garuda Indonesia Aussie Legends’, will play a series of game against local opposition here in Bali. The Bali International Cricket Club is located in Sanur and there 5 other cricket teams in Bali, catering to teenagers.

The Aussie Legends will play a game starting at 10.30am today at the new Gianyar Cricket Oval. Teams will combine Legends and local Balinese players. The Garuda Indonesia Aussie Legends, include name such as Jo Angel, Ryan Campbell, David Colley, Wayne Holdsworth, Paul Wilson, David Fitzgerald, Brian Taber and Richard Chee Quee.

Growing up in England in the ’70’s I was very used to listening to cricket on the radio. Every time England played Australia and looked like getting a few runs, up stepped a mysterious woman named ‘Lillian Thompson’. Strewth, she clean bowled our whole team in no time. How come Lillian isn’t in the Legends?

This cricket tour is being sponsored by Garuda and the Hotel Sanur Beach. Its purpose is promote cricket among the youth and to strengthen Australian - Indonesian relations.

Dear Readers

I like to share with you the feedback of the Legend Cricket Players (staying at Hotel SArn Beach) and the Organizers / Sponsors.

Sport can be a great way to promote tourism to Bali and to itensify the relation between Australia and Indonesia.

We all hope that the visit of the Legend Team will help us to receive more guests from Australia to Bali and to Sanur.

Regards

Chris
