Australia has pledged $1m to the Indonesia Red Cross and Red Crescent Society charities. The money is to help the immediate victims of today’s earthquake in Central Java.

As yet there are no reported Australian casualties, though 83 Australians were registered in Yogyakarta.

Riding around Bali, the preferred building material seems to be ugly grey cement blocks and cement beams. Uncontrolled building on a fault line is a time bomb, now we’re paying the price.
