Most people have heard about the machete attack on the Australian woman expat a couple of weeks ago. She was in her house and caught a couple of guys trying to rob the place, suffering severe wounds and almost dying. In my neighborhood too, there have been 4 street robberies lately, all on solo western females.
Not wanitng to spread gossip, but seeking the truth, I was wondering if anyone had info on a couple of kilings that occured recently. One of the Baliblog readers informed me a couple of Chinese Indonesians were killed in the last couple of monthsm, as well as a westerner. Two of them were in Pantai Berewa in Canggu, the other in Tabanan regency. I had heard about the Italian woman, but no the others. I’m not trying deliberately to hide bad news, but just have not heard about some of these cases.
If you have any input please respond. In Bali most of the murders are land related. The economic downturn could made some people resort to unsavoury tactics.

G’Day Nick,
There was a woman attacked in her hotel room in Jimbaran 3 weeks ago. She put up a good fight apparently and was hospitalised.
Hi,
I’m interested to know the opinion of BaliBlog’s reader, especially who stays in Bali or visits Bali regularly about the demand of some, if not all, Balinese to have special autonomy in Bali. What good do you think it should bring — to Bali and its people?
I was also looking for some information about islamisation in Bali. Is there somekind of fact finding commission that investigates this issue? Because I’ve heard about it lots of times from people I know in Bali, with various modus operandi, by flooding Bali with “pedagang bakso” (meatball sellers) or “pemulung” (scavengers) and disrupt and deconstruct Bali internally, quietly. Any pointers?
Best regards,
Raka
Cokorda,
Is your name for real? how come it’s so looooonnggg????
Yes, Bali would benifits from a special autonomy status.
Cok…….the Jakarta Post had a story about 3 years ago that said the government planned to increase the Muslim population in Bali to about 30% of the total. For evidence, all you have to do is count all the mosques recently constructed or under construction on the road from Denpasar to Gilimanuk. Two years ago I counted 14 between Tabanan and Gilimanuk.
I was in Bali at the beggining of November and was told by a Taxi driver about the Italian woman. He advised that this attack was business related and that the wrong thing had been done to the locals as to why it happened. His statement seemed to suggest that there was unrest with expats as business owners on the island and would not be surprised if more incidents happened. I did not really give this much thought until ready your blog. Hope your strange guys go away for you soon.
Nick and Barrie was talking about a 43yo Australian expat named Julie Mcnally (local newspaper quoted it as Juli Maik Roland). She lived in Jimbaran Hill resort room 210, jalan Bali Cliff, Ungasan.
The machetes sliced through her flesh and muscle as deep as 10cm, 45cm long across her back, 25cm long across her left shoulder and 35cm long across her left arm.
An Italian woman from Florence, Raffaella Becagli (31yo) daughter of Italian millionaire Mario Bacagli, was murdered and dumped in an area adjacent to Banjar Tegel Gundul, Tibubeneng, north of Kuta on oct 27.
A group of Italian forensics team help the doctors in Sanglah hospital with the autopsy of the body.
An Italian enterpreneur from Milan identified as Gabriel Paroli (45yo) was found on nov 7, monday morning lying semiconscious in an isolated rice field jalan Pemelisan Agung, near Tibubeneng beach, Canggu, some 10km north of Kuta.
Plastic cords tied his hands and bounds his ankles and his mouth was gagged with a handkerchief and a strip of duct tape.
bruises were on his leg, on his neck, on the back of his head, on his palms, behind his left ear, he had minor bleeding from his nose.
A British woman of 27yo was raped by 23yo local, Fitri Adi Suad on oct 31, in his place in jalan Mataram, Kuta after he agreed to accompany her to her hotel.
Two Dutch women, Paulina and Vanstrien was robbed in jalan Werkudara, Kuta by 4 motorcyclists. Both had got bruises and scars on their legs, eyes, and faces on the same day (oct 31).
A Swedish girl, Ennelie Brodersen (21yo) escaped a rape attempt by a local named Gocky on jan 30 in Jimbaran.
Bali is not safe anymore, especially since many Javanese came to the island and Bali’s ailing economy has not been rolling again. For anyone still considering to go to Bali, think again!
DEAR vogshpere you are full of SHIT!!!!!
P.D. PHQ!!!!!!!
Especially if your a woman alone…not a good idea in Indonesia. Ask Indo women how THEY feel about the local guys. You may be suprised. Going alone anywhere brings comments, being followed, all the time. And thats not BS.
Voghspere, as far as I know you’re information is correct, although saying Bali is unsafe is untrue in my opinion. And if Bali is unsafe well so is the rest of the world I don’t know where you live but probably one look in you’re local newspaper will reveal at least as much cases as u mentioned above.
Further on as usual there are more sides to some of the stories mentioned in the news. What I have heared is that the Italian Business man mentioned in the example probably had something to do with the missing children and child porn cases in the area he was found. So if this information is correct he was punished by the local Banjar and these punishments seam correct to me.
Voghspere
I am travelling to Bali alone for 3 weeks on boxing day. I was going with friends but they pulled out because of the recent travel warnings. I have many local friends in Bali that would never think about doing those things to anyone! Its a small minority of assholes that spoil it for the rest of the good people! But you get that wherever you are in the world. I feel confident that I will be safe! A life lived in fear is a life not lived! And to Jorz, well said!!

The End of the Innocense
Hmmm. Never met any Balinese pedagang bakso” (meatball sellers) or “pemulung” (scavengers)
The Balinese are too sombong to become such.
however they still eat the bakso and throw their rubbish everywhere.
Bali and Java have co-exsisted together long before bule came to this island.
Hypocrite Nick:
Just a few posts ago you were finding Kim Patras Bali Advertiser column hilarious…
And now you are deleting posts despite your public announcement that you would not.
Do you just like the sound of your own voice or are you simply hell bent on your own demise.
New kids on the block that claim to know all and sundry and preach untruths have a way of coming to a sticky end in Indonesia.
Do you know how many people die each year in U.S. due to fire arms? Yea… and you come and say Bali is not safe cause the billionaire’s daughter died. Funny thing logic…
Vogshpere!!! I have to ask you where you got your information from!? Specially the information about the 27 yo british woman that was raped by a 23 yo local guy!!?? Does it come from a reliable source?! I’ve been in Bali alot and i will go again…(I think so anyway)
Vogeshpere!!??
Did you get your information from a reliable source…where!!?? Specially are the one about the 23 yo local guy who raped a 27 yo british woman correct and reliable!?
I have been to Bali many times and i might go again…i know some people there…many locals…
Good job vogshpere!
I’d like to add about the Chinese business man too, (a friend of a friend of mine, 10 years)
had recently made what he thought new friends from Java.
They winded up attackining him for his pin number,
and when he did not give it to them…they strangled him. Not knowing what to do with his body, they chopped him up in pieces.
After they were caught, after several weeks and upon the begging request of the family, they finally found the head near the airport.
Also…the girlfriend of a friend of mine, was brutally attacked late at night on Jalan Oberoi for her purse. Once they obtained it, they kept on kicking and hitting her.
Something similar happened to another Italian girl by the jail.
Again, friends of a friend.
Most of these stories are not mentioned in the paper, for fear to further scare the tourism away.
Worse would be to scare those who stay here for a while on business, exporting goods out of Bali.
That would hurt another area of Bali’s income.
Too bad there is no CSI here to do thorough investigations, and too bad the police don’t do anything, unless you pay them to. Like the family of the Chinese guy, who desperately wanted to find his remains so to lay him to rest. That took close to a month.
Dear superstyling, what’s your problem?
Have a problem with the truth?
Or just becoming Balinese in not accepting it
and telling it as it is.
ciao
i am the raffaella becagli’ boy friend.
