Angie is back in Bali

Today I had the pleasure of meeting up with 2 groups of Bali visitors.

First up was a 9am interview with Teri and Kent (who I called Jeff before) at Warung 96 on Jl. Benesari in Kuta. I promised to buy them breakfast which is great because the American Breakfast in 8,500rp.

At 9am Warung 96 is pretty empty, the party crowd takes its time getting up and anyway many of the guest houses provide breakfast. As I arrived the staff were all tucking into rice and fish, an Indonesian breakfast. I asked if it was ‘enak’ (delicious) and they said it was. One lady told me it would make her ‘gamuk’ (fat) and I asked if that it what she really wanted. “Sedikit gamuk” (a little fat) she said.

I was anxious to get together with the 2 Canucks as they were leaving today for Thailand and they made the time for me. That interview will air soon.

The staff at 96 were cool as I left my wallet at home and trusted me to come back which I did within the hour.

After the Canucks left I bumped into Stewart from Palu surfboards who was getting ready to spend a day in the factory knocking out boards. He described his job which basically boils down to carving a block of hard styrofoam with a jigsaw, then shaping it with a grinder, covering it with plastic wrap, then applying toxic resin to coat it. Because the whole thing is done by hand any mistakes must be corrected to ensure the board is symmetrical. A slight bump or straight edge will throw off the whole thing. I can imagine it being a pain when you are in a hurry.

The new promo cards are well distributed now and any visitor to a Wartel ( phone office) in Kuta should see one. My cards have a section on the back for people to write a name, email /phone, and ‘place met at’.

My next meeting was at 1pm at Warung Nikmat on Jl. Bakung Sari in Kuta. Angie sms’d me earlier and arranged it. I got there on time but Angie and her taxi got stuck in traffic arriving about 30 minutes late. Nikmat can be a zoo at lunch time and is a favourite with Indonesian office workers as well as various tourists in the area.

Angie arrived with her business partner who brought her 2 teenage boys. This is an exciting time for Angie because her business Bali Paradise Weddings is doing its first wedding in Bali a week from now with anther 5 lined up shortly after.

Angie bought me a new shirt like she had promised and we had a photo taken. Apparently the previous photos I had taken of her on her last visit were not ‘attractive’ enough so I’ll have to make sure she’s ready this time around.

Nikmat serves great food (masakan khas Jawa ) which I don’t find too hot (pedas) but which all present thought was hot. My hearty plate was 8,500rp.

Nick,
Could you tell me where this is please? My next meeting was at 1pm at Warung Nikmat on Jl. Bakung Sari in Kuta
(Its Singosari now)or is that o and e ? I go to Bali twice a year and always stay in that Jl. Not at the Ramayana or Kuta Beach cottages/club but either the Backung Sari or the Agung Sari. I am very well know in that section of Bali.(For several reasons)
Should be there again late October.

Hi Nick,

I sent you two messages regarding a hotel information last week (first one on Monday). As I sent the first one to you I had to sent an email back, after which I got a confirmation. Now I’m not sure if you got my emails, because you didn’t answer. We’re in a hurry. So please let me know about it.

Thanks & Regards

Adriana

Tracey, Thanks but the shirt I’m wearing is a different one.

Peter, Bakung Sari, Singosari Sari…take a left turn down the side street where the Versace shop is and its round the corner. Great food and it will be busy at lunchtimes.

Deb, sorry you’re not here. I’m having another bbq this weekend too.

Adriana sorry I’m lagging. Will find out those breakfast details soon.

Hi Nick

Can you do a write up on first Wedding that Bali Paradise Weddings are doing?

Thanks

No Jodie, Nick will not do a write up on a soppy white wedding in Bali. ! Instead he will go round all the Bars and Nightclubs and find out some REALLY USEFUL INFORMATION……what time the happy hours are and if there are any drink promos on….hee hee…well i suppose everyone to their own…although i am joking when i start thinking about it, i think it would be a good idea. Everyday Nick could do the rounds and find out the happening joints with the best deals…you know like a chart with relevant club and the time they have there happy hour and a special promo column with the product (usually alco)
being promoted. That would keep you well tuned on the nightlife scene eh Nick, although your liver would be taking a bit of a hammering eh ! Hee hee
Well just another idea eh …BALI HAPPY HOURS/PROMOS.

Rgds Mark

Hey Mark…ever drank water? (He, he…)

Good idea for Nick to check these places out but if he did then, you would have to call this site ‘BoozeBlog’ istead of Baliblog!
