Aceh relief money corruption

Relief money that was supposed to rebuild Aceh, has been evaporating from sight, and local contractors have been the beneficiaries. According to Akhiruddin Mahjuddin, an accountant for the Aceh Anti-Corruption Movement, contractors and other greedy people have had their hands in the till, while the poor under nourished locals survive in tents and make shift huts.

Are we really that surpirsed? I’m amazed that the locals haven’t all been chased off to the highlands, and the governor hasn’t built a mini Las Vegas. Tons of goods are still in Jakarta awaiting Customs ‘clearance’. Probably won’t end up in Aceh either.
