Its always good to keep up with the news here in Bali and here are some of the things I thought I would point out.
President Susilo has declared he wants to stamp out thugs and touts at all of Indonesias airports. That is great news because I hate thugs and touts. At least in Indonesia they are little thugs.
Actually I have never had a problem at any airport in Indonesia.
I guess it was inevitable that some asshole lawyer decided to start sueing somebody on behalf of somebody else over the Asian tsunami. Lawyers in the US and Austria are filing suits against NOAA, Thailand and the Accor Hotel Group to be held accountable for a massive natural disaster. What can you say except there are too many greedy bastards in the world.
Ika and I went to a swimming pool this afternoon for an hour. Ika is now over 5 months pregnant and I wanted to keep her content and comfortable. She cannot really swim but enjoys splashing around. The pool we went to was located about 150 meters from the beach at the Puri Cendana Resort, in front of the CinCin restaurant. The staff told us we could use the pool as long as we bought a drink. This place is very handy for me a my house is at the other end of the street.
With so many hotels and resorts in Bali its is possible to go for a dip in many places if you have the time and the inclination.
For those visitng Bali in the immediate future we have another big ceremony coming up on Friday March 19th. Kuningan is the day where ancestors spirits return to heaven after coming down for Galungan. The place to see a big ceremony is Serangan (Turtle Island) which is half the way from Kuta to Sanur. There are other places around the island too that are having celebrations that day too.

Be sure to check out the temple ceremonies when you visit Bali and remember to bring a sarong and sash, available in Kuta for 20,000rp.
Here in Kuta everybody returned from their villages by Monday and things were back to normal. I have noticed several places that have been around for a while either closed or sporting signs that say lease contract available. I think that after surviving the bombing and not getting the strong rebound many had hoped for the time has come for, some people to look in other directions. One closure is Captain Haddock, the small corner place on Jl. Benesari. Still as fast as places close, others open up, just go to the Kuta Galleria at the bottom of the Sunset road and check out some of the spanking new businesses including Blueline.
Surfers might like to check out a newish restaurant / bar on Poppies I called Swell. Japanese / Balinese owned and obviously having spent a decent mount of money on it,( I guess the joke is on the Japanese guy ) this place has wood panelling, huge flat screen tv, movies, surf videos and decent menu. Cool decor make this a nice change from the places you have seen a 100 times before.
