The other new place on Gang Bima Seminyak Bali

The new house is located on Gang Bima in Seminyak in the area close to Bintang supermarket.

Its amazing what you will find in these small alleys in Bali. There looks to be some decent places down here and I feel like I got a pretty decent place.

My new house has 2 storeys, 2 bedrooms, 1 is AC and fan, the other just fan. The place looks quite clean and I have just agreed to pay some locals 250,000rp per month to clean the house 3 times a weeks and do the garden.

Right now there’s a little man upstairs fixing the lock on the bedroom door so I can lock it from the inside.

During the day the place seems very quiet and I can sit out back with my computer and type, plenty of power sockets inside the house too.

Last night was my first night here and we had another powerful storm. An American expat I talked to in Café Moka told me up in the hills there were reports of tornados with lots of trees blown down.

My house stood up to the pounding and the only damage was a small tree on its side, which the staff quickly fixed.

My kitchen is open air and comes with gas stove, sink and fridge. Both bedrooms have comfortable beds which is a relief as shopping for that stuff and moving it in is another project I don’t need right now.

The only thing I can see so far that isn’t perfect is the noise at night. I can hear Double Six nightclub and we’ll see how it is again tonight without the wind blowing the noise towards me. I can always get some earplugs. Part of being a good traveler is being adaptable, the world isn’t perfect and learning to deal with the surroundings is all part of it. I remember moving into Drupadi and thinking ‘oh no these roosters will make it impossible to sleep’. I got used to them and now they don’t bother me at all, maybe the thump thump will disappear too eventually.

This morning I started to find a home for all my bits and pieces. So important for me not to lose a vital cord or connector. It was quite funny because today I realized I left my electric toothbrush in the bathroom at the last place. Walking over I slipped in the front door, saw the key was still in it where I’d left it and grabbed my toothbrush, nobody noticing. Next up was a trip over to the old house on Jl. Drupadi where I left my floor cleaner and Windex. Same again, the front door was wide open, nobody there so I just wandered in and grabbed my belongings.

The whole moving in thing at this new place has been very informal. I filled out a police report today, will hand over a bit more money and the lady gave me a week to come up the total of 25M rp.

Its a lovely day here in Kuta and after I kick the remnants of my chest infection I’m looking forward to getting back into the swing with a vengeance.

G’Day Nick,

Firstly, get better soon mate. Drink some ‘air panas dan madu’.

Secondly, your new place is fantastic and far better than the last one. great garden (watch out for green snakes!), but somehow I think the kitchen will be ignored until Nyepi!.

Thumbs-up mate to the new pad. I look forward to seeing it really soon.

Did you have any luck trying to locate any Ordinance maps for me?.

Nick, your new place looks great, I hope you get used to the noise. You could always join ‘em if you cant beat ‘em

Barrie, check out this website it has some geographical details on Bali. It lists the islands circumference as being 5000 kilometers. I don’t know how hard you searched I used google and typed in bali circumference!!
It’s ok you are allowed to hate me I will probably be in Bali by the time you read this!!

G’day Nick

Have stopped several times in No.4 Gang Bima and I gotta tell ya the “Thump Thump” never goes away .

The last time we were there , im May last year, preperations for a cremation were underway opposite the Bintang supermaket so we had “Wailling Willie ” on the mike all day for around 5 days till about 11pm and when he stopped the “thump thump ” continued till around 3 am. Whem it stopped a dog and the chooks thought about starting up around 5am

You do get used to it but I submit that a good bottle of scotch can only help

Good Luck

Sampai Jumpa Lagi

Gary,

That place on Bima 4 doesn’t sound fun at all. Last night I used my bottom bedroom and the 12ft high perimeter wall seemed to stop most of the noise. I slept well.

A friend who lives on another part of Gang Bima was telling me yesterday that his neighbor keeps a lot of chickens and he had this ’special one’ from Kalimantan that makes even more noise than the usual ones. It hasn’t been around for a while and he’s hoping it died in a cock fight. Apparently the chickens from the jungle up there are louder…lets hope there’s no replacement.

Lovely, Nick. Sorry I didn’t look at this first before posting in your next story about pictures. I know, though, the noise won’t be a problem. Nothing is perfect but this place just may be.

How do you deal with the mosquitos? That has been my only hang-up with the “open air” rooms.
