Name : Callen Thomas
Age : 23
Where do you come from ? ( City, Country ): S. Wales
Why did you come to Bali?: Initially for the waves primarily, but also to experience a new culture, meet new people, eat new food and try new things unique to Indonesia.
Is this your first trip to Bali? How long will you be here?: My first trip was in transit. It killed me flying over the island in daylight. I came back 6 weeks later for 1 month. Just arrived again last weekend for 2 months in Indonesia. Not sure how long on Bali though?
How would you classify your budget? ( eg budget traveler, a little spendy, 5-star or bust ): Definitely budget traveler. It’s the only way I can way I can stay away from the UK for a long time. Also living with the locals and eating their food is a unique experience.
Are you on a short holiday ( say less than 1 month ), or travelling for an extended period of time?: I don’t know, at least 2 months, maybe longer if I score and English teaching job.
Did the Bali bombing affect you in your plans to come? Did it affect your trip overall?: I was due to be in Indonesia when the bombing took place, but had already changed my ticket to stay longer in Australia. I then visited in March of this year, but I wasn’t put off if anything I thought of uncrowded waves.
What is your favorite part of Bali?: I’ve spent all my time in southern Bali so far, only trekking as far north as Balian. But Uluwatu was pretty special. The coastline there was phenominal.
What is your least favorite part of Bali?: Its hard to say. Maybe the pollution of Kuta Beach.
Would you come back to Bali? Why or why not?: If I don’t settle here, I’ll continue to return for a long time.
What advice would you like to pass on to folks that are coming to Bali soon?: That’s hard. Just experience as mush as you can. Enjoy the vibe and respect Bali, the people and everything in it.
What are your travel plans for the future?: Always to spend as little time in the U.K. See more of SE Asia and specifically Indonesia.
Why do you like travel?: It suits my personality. Its interesting. Meeting new people, different cultures. To appreciate a naturalness so frequently overlooked in a western society. Real education that is important.
Any other thoughts you’d care to share with the world?: If you get a chance read ‘Krishnamurti’, its key, the guy was a genius.
