Photo update from Kuta Bali

In the last 4 days Sean Keener (president of BootsnAll.com) has been with me here in Bali.

We have been zooming around on our motorbikes looking for a new place for me to live and meeting with local businesses we think offer the best value for our readers. Being super busy we scrimped on the photos so here is a little look at what we did.

Cafe Moka is a handy fun place to have breakfast. When we had time this was first on our agenda. Its located on Jl.Seminyak, across from the school and we would cruise down a little alley to get there. My ‘coffee lovers breakfast’ consists of a basket of bread with butter and jam, a pot of coffee and a glass of water for 12,000rp.

Internet Outpost on Poppies Lane II together with Global Xtreme in Kerobokan were the internet cafes we spent our time in, great service and pleasant environment.

At AJ Hackett’s bungy jumping at the end of Jl. Double Six in Legian we stopped by for chat with Fanny Charles one of the sales staff and also to look at the renovations. The nightclub Double Six has a great open air site which really gets going after 1am.

This was my solution to a beer that was left in the freezer too long. Don’t try this, after beer freezes the alcohol all goes to one part and it tastes awful.

Meeting with represenatives from the Hard Rock Cafe located at the beach in Kuta gave us the chance to enjoy the view of Kuta Beach and remind ourselves what a cool place Bali is even if you are not surfing everyday.

Someone told me a week or 2 ago that they got really sick by getting wet on the motorbike and not changing straight away. Sean and I had a busy agenda and one of our stops was the port of Benoa. After 10 minutes on the bypass from my house in Seminyak it poured, we were both drenched and showed up to our meeting looking like drowned rats. The next meeting in Sanur gave us a chance to dry off using the wind but on our final leg to Jimbaran we were soaked again. True to prediction I got sick and now have a kind of flu.

Our buddy Ebong lives in Jimbaran across from the beach and he gave us a couple of dry t-shirts. Ebong works in jewelry and does a side gig for Magic Wave surfing magazine. He recently bought a new longboard for $400, which is good for surfing small waves and getting longer rides.

Ebong took us down to a seafood place on the beach called Ramayana. We ordered 2 kilos of squid, 2 kilos of snapper, plus rice, potatoes and all kinds of condiments and sauces. That along with 2-3 large beers cost us 187,000rp, which we thought was pretty good. This time the ‘mariachi’ band didn’t make its way over to us…too many other customers from Taiwan around. They do create a good atmosphere though and got into the Gyspy Kings standards with passion.

Sean left yesterday ay 3.30 pm on a flight to Taipei the on to the Portland Oregon, the weather is a few degrees lower there but he had 6 weeks down here in the sunny southern hemisphere.

My job now is make Baliblog even better and keep on meeting interesting people and searching out cool stuff for you visitors. I accept the challenge.

G’Day Nick,

Geez mate, the beer looks cold alright!

We all have confidence in you Nick regarding Baliblog. It can only get better than it is now which means you will have to improve on ‘perfect’ because that is Baliblog. Full credit to you for your professionalism as an entrepeneur, travel writer and host to those who come to Bali.

I realise it has been just over a year since you first landed on the shores of paradise, and in that year you have given us so much pleasure with your wit, creative writing and info on what’s happening. Thanks mate.

your emergency beer rescue brought back memories.
It just don’t work.
The SOH now uses the stove timer to rescue.
Just putitin the fridge to thaw and buy/use a new one.
BTW when they explode in the freezer it is not a pretty sight. Frozen brown beer globules surrounded by large brown pieces of glass all over a large area.

cheers – all part of the character building!! or learning curve.

Nick – just so you know, I would never have considered travelling to Bali but for Baliblog. Now it is on my list of MUST destinations, and sight-unseen I’ve half a mind (well having only a half-mind remaining after my 20′s, perhaps a quarter-mind) to expatriate myself.

Anything can improve and get better, but this blog is already quite excellent. I agree with Barrie.

Nick, thanks for all the information you’ve provided thus far – always interesting and perceptive.

I’m living in Ubud, and just came across your bali blog, enjoy mostly. Just must comment on this photo of your friend Sean. I find it a bit insensitive to have the soles of his feet so prominent in the photo, being that that’s one of the biggest insults one can do in Indonesia. For what it’s worth…. Appreciate your blog efforts. Bali needs all the good pr it can get….
